File and Directory Naming Conventions

This topic is part of Planning Your Siebel Deployment.

Use lowercase for all of the file names, directory names, path names, parameters, flags, and command-line commands, unless you are instructed otherwise.

Directory names or file names cannot contain special characters, including periods, apostrophes, accents, number (pound or hash) signs, or ampersands. Underscores are acceptable. Spaces are not allowed for server installs on Windows (though the operating system might otherwise allow it). Spaces are acceptable for Siebel Web Client or Siebel Tools installs (on Windows).

How This Guide Refers to Your Installation Directories

This guide uses the following conventions to refer to the installation directories either created by the installers or to which users navigate to access files and executable programs.

NOTE:  The default installation directories shown in this guide for Siebel Enterprise Server components or Siebel Web Server Extension are those for new installations of Siebel CRM version 8.1.1.11 or version 8.2.2.4. If your installed instances of these modules were installed before Siebel CRM version 8.1.1.8 (using the InstallShield installers), then different locations apply. In this case, the Siebel root directory under which server products were installed might be C:\sba81 or something similar. Alternatively, your products might have been installed in nondefault installation directories. For more information, see the version of the Siebel Installation Guide for the operating system you are using that you used when you initially installed. Prior guides for Siebel CRM version 8.1 and version 8.2, including the most recent guides applicable to the InstallShield installers (version 8.1, Rev. A), are available on My Oracle Support, at 1461732.1 (Article ID).

SIEBEL_ROOT. Generally, this refers to the main directory in which software for each Siebel Enterprise Server component has been installed. The installers for the Siebel Enterprise Server components install into the top-level directory, such as C:\siebel\8.1.1.11.0\ses by default, although the directory where you install might be different. Generally, this directory is what SIEBEL_ROOT represents in this guide.

ORACLE_HOME. This refers to the same directory as represented by SIEBEL_ROOT.

SIEBEL_HOME. The installation or root directory for Siebel Business Applications software in general (such as C:\siebel\8.1.1.11.0\ses or C:\siebel\8.2.2.4.0\ses), or of a specific module such as the Siebel Gateway Name Server or the Siebel Server (such as C:\siebel\8.1.1.11.0\ses\siebsrvr or C:\siebel\8.2.2.4.0\ses\siebsrvr for Siebel Server), depending on the context. Many scripts contain variables with this name; its meaning is most often derived from the context.

SIEBSRVR_ROOT. The installation or root directory for Siebel Server. By default, it is installed in C:\siebel\8.1.1.11.0\ses\siebsrvr or C:\siebel\8.2.2.4.0\ses\siebsrvr.

SIEBEL_GATEWAY_ROOT. The installation or root directory for Siebel Gateway Name Server. By default, it is installed in C:\siebel\8.1.1.11.0\ses\gtwysrvr or C:\siebel\8.2.2.4.0\ses\gtwysrvr.

DBSRVR_ROOT. The directory into which you install the Siebel Database Configuration Utilities (formerly referred to as the Siebel Database Server). By default, these utilities are installed in C:\siebel\8.1.1.11.0\ses\dbsrvr or C:\siebel\8.2.2.4.0\ses\dbsrvr (on a Siebel Server computer).

SWSE_ROOT. The directory into which you install the Siebel Web Server Extension (SWSE). By default, it is installed in C:\siebel\8.1.1.11.0\sweapp or C:\siebel\8.2.2.4.0\sweapp.

SIEBEL_CLIENT_ROOT. The directory into which you install the Siebel Mobile Web Client or Siebel Developer Web Client. By default, it is installed in C:\siebel\8.1\Client_1 or C:\siebel\8.2.2.0.0\Client_1 or a similar location.

SIEBEL_TOOLS_ROOT. The directory into which you install Siebel Tools. By default, it is installed in C:\siebel\8.1\Tools_1 or C:\siebel\8.2.2.0.0\Tools_1 or a similar location.
