Deploy startup and shutdown classes

After you configure a startup class or shutdown class, you deploy it to one or more servers. You can also deploy it to clusters.

When you deploy to all or part of a cluster, the Administration Console initiates a two-phase deployment. In general, such a deployment ensures that if the deployment fails for one active server, it fails for all active servers.

To deploy startup and shutdown classes:

  1. If you have not already done so, in the Change Center of the Administration Console, click Lock & Edit (see Use the Change Center).
  2. In the left pane of the Console, expand Environment and select Startup and Shutdown Classes.
  3. On the Startup and Shutdown Classes page, click the startup class or shutdown class name.
  4. Select Target and Deploy.
  5. To deploy to all or part of a cluster:
    1. On the Target and Deploy page, in the Clusters table, select the check box next to the cluster.
    2. To assign the class to all servers in the cluster, select All Servers in the Cluster.
    3. To assign the class only to one or more specific servers, select Part of the Cluster. Then select the servers you want to target.
  6. To assign the startup or shutdown class to servers that are not in a cluster, in the Servers table, select one or more servers.

If the deployment fails for one server, the Administration Console reports the error but continues deploying on any remaining servers that you selected.

  7. Click Save.
  8. To activate these changes, in the Change Center of the Administration Console, click Activate Changes.
Not all changes take effect immediately—some require a restart (see Use the Change Center).

After you finish

  1. Add startup and shutdown classes to the classpath.
  2. Restart each server instance on which you have deployed the class.
