New Features in this Release

·         The EPM System component communications spreadsheet displays all components for each EPM System product domain and its associated communication flows, including port and protocol information. This spreadsheet has been updated for and is posted in the EPM Whitepaper library (“Communication Flows for EPM System Components”).

·         The Installation Start Here now includes diagrams that illustrate the component architecture for each EPM System domain. See the chapter “EPM System Architecture”.

·         The Installation Start Here includes additional deployment diagrams for Financial Close Management.

·         The High Availability Guide now includes a chapter about setting up EPM System for disaster recovery and is now called the High Availability and Disaster Recovery Guide.

·         New client installers are available for Financial Reporting Studio, Hyperion Strategic Finance Client, and Offline Planning so you can install client software without downloading large zip files for server and Web components. The Financial Reporting Print Server is now installed with the Financial Reporting Studio client installer.

·         In a UNIX environment, you can deploy EPM System products to a shared drive. Deploying to a shared drive lets you install in one place, and configure on each machine. This allows you to:

o    Review the configuration for a distributed setup from a single machine

o    Review logs for different machines from a single machine

o    Enable patching in a single place

o    Simplify disaster recovery setup

·         The Financial Close Management deployment process has been streamlined.

·         Release supports upgrading from prior releases. For information on the supported upgrade paths, see "Supported Paths to this Release."

·         You can now configure Oracle HTTP Server to provide load-balancing of Oracle Hyperion Financial Management, Fusion Edition, and Oracle Hyperion Financial Data Quality Management, Fusion Edition, Web applications on IIS. You set up the load-balancing in Oracle's Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management System Configurator, where you can choose between Oracle HTTP Server and third-party load balancers.

·         Failover clustering of Performance Management Architect Dimension Server with Oracle Clusterware is now supported.

·         Essbase now supports one-way SSL. See the Oracle Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management System Installation and Configuration Guide for information on configuration steps and the Oracle Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management System Security Administration Guide for additional procedures.

·         EPM System Installer and Configurator support the Polish and Norwegian languages.

·         A new configuration option in EPM System Configurator simplifies integration between EPM Workspace and OBIEE and BI Publisher.

·         Financial Reporting Print Server is now installed with Financial Reporting Studio. The download file, which is separate from EPM System Installer, is smaller to speed up download time and installation.

·         A new configuration option in EPM System Configurator lets you specify a non-default location for text files used as data sources for Essbase Studio. Previously, you specified that information in a file.

·         Enterprise Performance Management Architect Services have been collapsed to two: Enterprise Performance Management Architect Server and Enterprise Performance Management Architect IIS Web Services.

·         The Scheduler Server is now combined with the rest of the Financial Reporting Services. There is no special configuration required other than using native application server clustering. Ensure that all the network shares and physical printers are accessible from all the WebLogic instance machines if storing output in an external directory or directing output to a printer.

Note: SQR Release 11.1.2.x and Interactive Reporting Release 11.1.2.x will be the last release to support Netezza as a data source.

New Features in Release

·         EPM System Installer now installs these items:

o    WebLogic Server (replaces Apache Tomcat as the embedded Java container)

o    Oracle HTTP Server (replaces Apache Web server as the embedded Web server)

See the Certification Matrix:

for the versions installed and for a list of other supported application servers and Web servers. For more information, see the Oracle Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management System Installation and Configuration Guide.

·         Most EPM System products have adopted Oracle Diagnostic Logging (ODL) as the logging mechanism. The ODL framework provides uniform support for managing log files, including log file rotation, maximum log file size, and the maximum log directory size. For more information, see the “Using EPM System Logs” chapter of the Oracle Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management System Installation and Configuration Troubleshooting Guide.

·         Oracle Configuration Manager (OCM) integrates with My Oracle Support and provides configuration information for Oracle software. It assists in the troubleshooting, maintenance, and diagnostics of your EPM System deployment. For more information about Oracle Configuration Manager, see the Oracle Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management System Installation and Configuration Guide.

·         This release allows the system administrator to reconfigure logical references to existing, deployed Web applications without redeploying them.

·         With this release, many EPM System products support host names that resolve to IPv6 addresses. See the Oracle Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management System Certification Matrix. IPv4 support (both host name and IP address) remains unchanged from earlier releases.

·         EPM supports the following types of SSL configuration:

o    Full SSL Deployment (including data access)

o    SSL Terminating at the Web Server

o    SSL Accelerators (off-loading)

o    Two-way SSL

For more information on the SSL configurations, see the Oracle Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management System Security Administration Guide.

·         EPM System Configurator now requires the Shared Services “admin” password to be changed during system configuration. Once deployed, subsequent password changes are done through Shared Services. For more information, see the Oracle Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management System Installation and Configuration Guide.

·         Essbase now supports active-passive failover without Oracle Clusterware. You can use EPM System Configurator to configure Essbase in an active-passive failover configuration with write-back capability. For more information, see the Oracle Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management System Installation and Configuration Guide and the Oracle Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management System High Availability Guide.

·         Microsoft Windows Installer (MSI) Client Installers are now provided for Essbase Excel Add-in and Disclosure Management.

·         Essbase Server supports Oracle Process Manager and Notification Server (OPMN) Integration. For more information, see the Oracle Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management System Installation and Configuration Guide.

Defects Fixed in this Release

Defect Number

Defect Fixed

• 6584762

When Financial Management and Financial Management Office Provider are created from the Server and Web Configuration Utility on IIS6.0, they both use the Default Application Pool. When other products are installed on the same IIS server, problems in one product can cause stability issues for all virtual directories using the same application pool. Financial Management needs to have its own dedicated pool.

• 7249559

In Financial Management, consolidations run by Task Flows do not complete when the IIS Application Pool restarts.

• 8723273

Documentation on what happens when you upgrade from Essbase Release 9x to Essbase Release 11x is now included in the Installation and configuration Guide in the chapter titled "Upgrading EPM System Products."

• 8294704,

Repeating full installations on a system without proper cleanup between them can cause the system PATH to overflow (maximum length of 1024 characters), overriding the earliest entries in the variable.

• 8399934,

When installing in console mode, when Typical mode is selected, the screen has both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of the components selected.

• 8763082

The Essbase Excel Add-in 11.x requires the environment variables to be set at the user level rather than the system level.

• 8841004, 9180347

Known Issues

The following issues are the noteworthy known issues of this patch.

Defect Number

Known Issues

Linux: When you configure products in console mode, all products are not selected by default.

Workaround: Manually select all products needed for configuration.

6889688, 8291337

If there is not enough free disk space for an installation, EPM System Installer displays an error message, “Failed. Check for space or memory issues”, at the bottom of the Summary window.

Workaround: Ensure that there is twice as much space as the amount shown in Oracle Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management System Installation Start Here.

You must use native authentication with Microsoft SQL Server instead of Windows authentication. Both the Oracle Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management System Installation and Configuration Troubleshooting Guide and the Oracle Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management System Installation Start Here state to use Windows authentication.

Using underscores in host names may cause errors when starting or connecting to services running on the improperly named hosts.

Workaround: Use an alphanumeric, dash (-), or dot (.) character in the host name.

If EPM System Configurator is running and you click Cancel, this error message is displayed: “This action cannot be canceled….”

Workaround: Either shut down the command line window or open the Windows Task Manager and end the Java process.

After a configured Shared Services database is deleted and then recreated, EPM System Configurator stops when you attempt to configure the new database.

Workaround: Do not delete the database in the middle of configuration. If you have already deleted the database, stop and restart EPM System Configurator.

EPM System Configurator does not prompt for database information if the database is not running.

Workaround: Verify that your database is running before you start EPM System Configurator.

When EPM System Installer installs files, the progress bar stalls at 99% for over a half hour.

Workaround: EPM System Installer appears to freeze while copying over large amounts of help files. It will complete the task, but on some slow systems, it might take an hour. Know that if you cancel the installation, help files for EPM System Uninstaller may not be available.

After the IIS listen port is changed, the Web server configuration task displays the default port.

Workaround: Disregard the port displayed in the Web server configuration task. The listen port is changed correctly.

The Excel add-in menu cannot be accessed by a system administrator. Only the user specified during the installation can access the menu.

Workaround: If you are using Spreadsheet Add-in as a Power User instead of as an
Administrator, you must manually set ESSBASEPATH.

In EPM System Configurator, the Web server task is listed when no Web applications or Web servers are installed.

Workaround: Ignore the listing because you do not have to configure the Web server on the services tier.

EPM System Configurator displays the wrong error message during SSL support for JDBC verification.

Workaround: Restart EPM System Configurator.

AIX: When you install EPM System as the first Oracle product on a machine, you must run, located in the extracted assembly folder rootpre as a root user to create the central inventory for Oracle products.

UNIX: When you run EPM System Configurator and leave the user name blank for the database, click Next, and then go back to reenter the user name, the Shared Services Registry tables are not created.

Workaround: Exit EPM System Configurator before re-entering the user name.

When you run EPM System Configurator and choose the database configuration option, EPM System Configurator fails if the database name has double-byte characters.

Workaround: Change the database name to non-double-byte characters.

When you run EPM System Configurator, the SSL listen ports are predefined for all deployed Web applications and then enabled. They should be in a disabled state because EPM System Configurator does not perform automatic SSL configuration.

Workaround: Configure SSL separately. For instructions on SSL configuration, see the Oracle Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management System Security Administration Guide.

When the temp directory in WebLogic contains a lot of WebLogic objects, EPM System Configurator and EPM System Installer may encounter errors in subsequent installations and configurations.

Workaround: Delete the WebLogic objects by hand before installing and configuring new components.

When EPM System Configurator terminates abnormally before configuring EPM System products, EPM System Configurator displays the status as complete.

Workaround: Re-run EPM System Configurator and select all the options.

After you run EPM System Configurator successfully for several products, when you rerun EPM System Configurator again, the status check boxes of the configured parent products are still selected.

Workaround: If parent products are selected for configuration and the subtasks are displayed as successfully configured, click Next:

·         If you receive a popup message indicating no tasks to run, you may ignore the parent status and close the window.

·         If EPM System Configurator proceeds, then you actually have incomplete hidden tasks to run; for example: Shared Services registration or an internal preconfiguration task.

On the EPM System Installer summary window, clicking the Configure button does not start EPM System Configurator.

Workaround: From the Start menu, select Programs, then Oracle EPM System, then Foundation Services, and then EPM System Configurator.

When using EPM System Configurator with insufficient database permissions, the database configuration (Shared Services and Registry) passes; however, all other tasks fail, and EPM_ORACLE_INSTANCE/diagnostics/logs/config does not contain all the logs to help debug the problem.

Workaround: Make sure the user has sufficient database permissions. See the Installation Start Here for the required permissions.

After pressing Configure in EPM System Installer, EPM System Configurator does not launch.

Workaround: Launch EPM System Configurator from the Start menu or from the command line. See the Oracle Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management System Installation and Configuration Guide for more information.

In a Solaris environment, EPM System Installer starts even though there is not enough space to complete the installation, and the installation fails for all products.

Workaround: See the Installation Start Here for disk space requirements.

The Test page in WebLogic Administration Console does not work.

In EPM System Configurator, when you select Setup on the Deploy to Application Server panel, the values for ports are incorrect in the Advanced Setup dialog box, and the name value is lost.

Workaround: Change the port values in the Advanced Setup dialog box.

When several Web applications are deployed in the Administration Server, an
out of memory message may be displayed at deployment.

Workaround: Increase the default memory setting in the Administration Server.

If you try to reinstall WebLogic Server if the installation does not work correctly the first time, the WebLogic Server option is no longer available to select.

Workaround: Edit the inventory.xml file located in c:\program files\oracle\inventory\ContentsXML to remove the WebLogic entry.

If you launch EPM System Configurator, select an existing domain, and select a component to reconfigure, the database connection information is incorrect.

Workaround: Edit the values that appear after you select the database type.

If you launch EPM System Configurator by clicking the Configure button on the EPM System Installer Summary page, the execution of startconfigtool.bat fails during a
Windows System32 directory check with error message: C:\WINDOWS\system32 not
present in PATH
; however, C:\WINDOWS\system32 actually does exist in the PATH environment variable.

Workaround: Launch EPM System Configurator from the Start menu.

EPM System Configurator closes with an error if the path uses %SystemRoot% as the environment variable.

Workaround: Add the path to the environment variable.

When installing the Essbase Excel add-in on a Vista machine, selecting all users adds shortcuts in the current user profile. When installing the Essbase Excel add-in on a WinXP machine, selecting all users adds shortcuts in the current user profile and in the all user profile.

Workaround: Manually move the shortcut to the All Users folder.

In a distributed environment, EPM System Configurator closes with an error when it is unable to resolve the host name from one machine to another. For example, if the host name of Machine B has the domain as "", then Machine A is not able to resolve the domain as "".

Workaround: Add host name details in C:\Windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts (/etc/hosts for UNIX).

Using EPM System Diagnostics to check the availability of Financial Management Web services does not always work correctly.

In a Solaris environment, Web application start up is unacceptably slow.

Workaround: Install EPM System Web applications in an environment other than Solaris.

In a distributed installation of EPM System, after running EPM System Diagnostics, the validation report on the machine hosting Shared Services comes back empty.

Workaround: Add an epmsystem1 instance to $HOME/.oracle.instances and rerun EPM System Diagnostics. For example:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

In a distributed maintenance of EPM System, if you run the Validation Tool on the second box and select WEB:Permissions, an error is displayed that says the system-jazn-data.xml file does not exist.

Workaround: Check to see if the system-jazn-data.xml file contains all the EPM System entries.

On an EPM System, managed servers fail to start, and an error is displayed.

Workaround: Use an earlier backup of config.xml where <target>FMWebServices</target> was not added in the following section:

Web Server ports are not updated during reconfiguration.

Workaround: After reconfiguring, go to the Registry and manually update the port for the WEB_SERVER component with the following command:

EPM_ORACLE_INSTANCE/bin/epmsys_registry.<bat|sh> updateproperty WEB_SERVER/@port <correct port number>

EPM System does not work if it is hosted on servers that use Turkish as the system locale.

Workaround: Reset the locale of the host machine to English.

When using EPM System Configurator, $ (the dollar sign) is not accepted in a UNC path in the Reporting and Analysis Services Task panel.

When installing EPM System on Win2003 R2 SP1, a warning is displayed, and EPM System cannot be installed.

Workaround: Run EPM System Installer using the installTool.cmd -ignoreChecks command.

Oracle HTTP Server

Defect Number

Known Issues

EPM System Installer cannot install Oracle HTTP Server (OHS) on a machine having 1015 MB total physical memory.

Workaround: Ensure that you have 1024 MB total physical memory.

On Windows 2003 SP2 64-bit, EPM System Configurator fails to start Oracle HTTP Server (OHS). Startup fails because Oracle HTTP Server only supports Oracle database client Version 11.

Workaround: If using Oracle database, you must use Oracle database client

If EPM System Installer fails to install Oracle HTTP Server (OHS), the Oracle HTTP Server reinstall option is not available.

Workaround: Review the Oracle HTTP Server and EPM System Installer log files to determine why Oracle HTTP Server failed to install.

Note: A common reason for an incomplete Oracle HTTP Server installation or configuration is a missing prerequisite on the Oracle HTTP Server machine. See the “Oracle HTTP Server Installation Prerequisites” section in the Oracle Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management System Installation and Configuration Guide.

When Oracle HTTP Server is not installed with EPM System Installer, EPM
System Configurator does not list the Web Server Configuration Task.
Workaround: If Oracle HTTP Server is installed to the MIDDLEWARE HOME, you
must manually configure Oracle HTTP Server.

In a distributed environment, Oracle HTTP Server (OHS) is required on each machine hosting a Web or Service tier component. If you install using the "Choose components individually" installation option, OHS is not automatically selected, and EPM System Configurator hangs during configuration.

Workaround: Install OHS on each machine hosting a Web or Service tier component and then run EPM System Configurator again.

On the Welcome screen of EPM System Installer, "EPM System Installer Prerequisite Checks" indicate that all Oracle HTTP Server (OHS) prerequisites have been met; however, OHS installation fails. In addition, when OHS installer runs separately, it fails "Prerequisite Checks" when "Checking Recommended Operating System Patches".

Workaround: Open the OHS central inventory log files to find out which patches are missing. Apply the missing patches and run EPM System Installer again.

General Upgrading Issues

Defect Number

Known Issues

When applying the maintenance release from Release to Release, any new locales must be manually added to the list of supported locales. In EPM System Workspace Release, the new locales are Norwegian and Polish.

Workaround: To add the new EPM System Workspace locales, select Navigate, then Administer, then Workspace Server Setting, click the Supported Locales button, and add the desired locales.

If the path to the system folder c:\windows\system32 is not hard-coded with
the full path, then the EPM System Configurator fails to run.

Workaround: Add C:\WINDOWS\system32 to the path, or replace any path variables.

When upgrading to Release on the same box, EPM System Installer does not detect any previous installations.

Workaround: Do the following:

·         Remove the previous EPM_ORACLE_HOME from inventory.xml in the central inventory folders

·         Remove products from the previous release from oracle.products after upgrading but before running EPM System Configurator again.

Upgrading ERP Integrator

Defect Number

Known Issue

Upgrading ERP Integrator to Release fails because the diagnostics\logs\upgrades folder does not exist.

Workaround: Create the diagnostics\logs\upgrades folder before configuration.

Upgrading Essbase

Defect Number

Known Issues

10010699, 11735177

When upgrading Essbase Administration Services from a previous release to Release, the partition definition may become invalid due to a host name change from an out-of-place upgrade. This happens whenever there is a change in the hostname/Essbase Cluster name. When you try to repair the partition, the hostname will be changed to either a new host name or an Essbase Cluster name; however, if "user" information is changed, it will not get updated.

Workaround: Use the MaxL command alter partition... For complete syntax, see the Oracle Essbase Technical Reference.

During an Essbase Studio upgrade to Release, if you accept the default location for data files, an error is displayed and you cannot proceed with the upgrade.

Workaround: Provide the path to your Essbase Studio data files.

In a distributed environment, where Shared Services is installed on a different machine than the machine on which Administration Services is installed, after upgrading Release or to Release, the Administration Services Console fails to start the first time you try to log in.

Workaround: Restart the managed server.

When upgrading Essbase from Release to Release, only the administrator is provisioned for Essbase; the other users are not provisioned. So, only the administrator is able to log in to Essbase.

Workaround: On any additional boxes (beyond the initial box where Shared Services is installed) where Shared Services is replicated, configure the database for Foundation Services and perform the “Import Data from Earlier Release” task before configuring other products, particularly Essbase.

On Windows platforms, after applying the maintenance release from Release to Release, Essbase cannot be started.

1.    Open the opmn.xml file found in EPM_ORACLE_INSTANCE/config/OPMN/opmn.

2.    Change the following line:

 <process-set id="AGENT" restart-on-death="false">

to read as follows:

<process-set id="AGENT" restart-on-death="false" numprocs="1">.

3.    Start the Essbase server again.

On AIX platforms, after applying the maintenance release to move Administration Services from Release to Release, the Administration Services Server may terminate when connecting to Essbase.

Workaround: Remove all files from eas/server/bin except: libenvironmentjni.a, libjmaxl.a,  libdataprepjni.a, libesscorejni.a, and liboutlinejni.a.

On AIX platforms, after applying the maintenance release from Release to Release, Essbase cannot be started.

1.    Open the opmn.xml file found in EPM_ORACLE_INSTANCE/config/OPMN/opmn.

2.    Search for id=LIBPATH, and change the value to _21. (The existing value is     _11.)

Note that there are two id=LIBPATH lines that need to be changed.

After applying the maintenance release from Release to Release, if the Excel add-in is installed on a machine with Essbase Server and Client, and you upgrade the Essbase Server and Client before upgrading the Excel add-in, the Excel add-in no longer works.

Workaround: Upgrade the Excel add-in before upgrading Essbase Server and Client.

For Japanese Essbase Studio environment upgrades, when performing the cube linkage procedure in "Updating Essbase Studio References to a Rehosted Environment," selecting the option, "Update all Essbase applications and databases to link to the current Essbase Studio Server" results in errors.

Workaround: Update cube linkage for each cube individually, as described in "Updating Cube Linkage for Individual Cubes" in the Oracle Essbase Studio User's Guide.

When upgrading Essbase from Release to Release, Essbase Server Configuration fails.

Workaround: Before configuration, edit <EPM_ORACLE_HOME>/products/Essbase/EssbaseServer/bin/setEssbaseEnv.bat.template for the correct ESSLANG value (always Latin-1), or use non-double-byte ARBORPATH.

When applying the maintenance release from Release to Release, the Validation Tool may indicate an Essbase java API check fail when doing multiple box configurations. This is a reporting issue and there normally is no functional issue with the software.

When upgrading from Release to Release, running in -console mode on Solaris does not prompt for the previous Essbase Administration Services database.

Workaround: Run in -gui mode or in -silent mode.

Upgrading Financial Management

Defect Number

Known Issues

When using EPM System Configurator to configure a Financial Management DCOM user, configuration fails if the password does not meet the requirements for Windows 2008.

Workaround: Use a password that conforms to Windows security standards.

When upgrading Financial Management from Release to Release, if only the cluster is registered and not the server, the Financial Management cluster may have an incorrect name in the registry.

Workaround: Register both the server and the cluster.

After upgrading from Release to Release, the Financial Management applications created in Release can be seen from the Application Library but cannot be opened.

Workaround: Run Application Upgrade.exe (for 32-bit machines) or Application Upgrade_x64.exe (for 64-bit machines) found in <EPM_ORACLE_HOME>/products/FinancialManagement/Server.

After applying the maintenance release from Release to Release on multiple distributed boxes with the Financial Management Web application installed separately from the services, you may get a diagnostic tool error. This is a reporting issue and there normally is no functional issue with the software.

Upgrading Profitability and Cost Management

Defect Number

Known Issues

In Profitability and Cost Management, when upgrading from Release to Release, the upgrade may fail if the EPM_ORACLE_INSTANCE variable is not set.

Workaround: Ensure that the EPM_ORACLE_INSTANCE variable is set before running the upgrade_reregister_ps1.bat|sh script. See the Oracle Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management System Installation and Configuration Guide.

In Profitability and Cost Management, when applying the maintenance release from Release to Release and running HPMUpdateEssbaseServer.bat as a post-upgrade step, you cannot refresh the cubes that were created in Release

Workaround: Re-register in Performance Management Architect and deploy the Profitability and Cost Management application to Essbase.

Upgrading Provider Services

Defect Number

Known Issues

EPM System Configurator does not work correctly when Provider Services data is on a mapped network drive that is read-only.

Workaround: Place Provider Services data on writable mapped drive, or on a local drive on an upgraded Release system.

When upgrading Provider Services from Release to, the Smart Slice in SmartView still has the Release host name, and you cannot view the Smart Slice in Release

Workaround: Use (bat) to add the Release host name as follows: oldhost:portnumber. Then, run (bat).

Upgrading Shared Services

Defect Number

Known Issues

When upgrading from any release to Release, migration is supported only for identity attributes set to DN or nsuniqueid for SunOne LDAP, OrclGUID for OID, ObjectGUID for Active Directory, GUID for Novell eDirectory, or ibm-entryUUID for IBM LDAP Directory servers. If you have an identity attribute set to a value other than these, you must first migrate to a supported identity attribute.

Note: Although currently there is no way to migrate identity attributes, Oracle is planning to provide patches for Releases 9.2.1, 9.3.3 and If you are using unsupported identity attributes, apply the patch in the current release, migrate identities to a supported attribute, and then upgrade to Release

Upgrading Web Analysis

Defect Number

Known Issues

When using IBM DB2, due to changes in the Web Analysis database schema, some database tables must be reorganized and revalidated after upgrading.

Workaround: When the database configuration task completes, manually run the script on the target DB2 instance. For this purpose, connect to the DB2 instance using the same credentials as EPM System applications and call the pre-defined stored procedure. For example:

connect to <DB_NAME> user <USER_ID> using <PASSWORD>;

The stored procedure returns status "0" if succeeded.

In Web Analysis, when applying the maintenance release from Release to Release, you must go to the Web Analysis Web Application Properties - Related Content tab and manually change the RelatedContent.Server.URL.0 parameter to the following:

EPM Infrastructure Development recommends that you do not run two instances of EPM System Configurator on multiple machines at the same time. The data from one instance of EPM System Configurator could overwrite the configuration done by the second EPM System Configurator instance.

EPM System Configurator does not show the database configuration panel if the Shared Services Registry database is dropped.

Workaround: Delete the file from MIDDLEWARE_HOME/user_projects/epmsystem1/
and rerun EPM System Configurator.

UNIX: EPM System Uninstaller leaves some files under the product installation location.

Workaround: Perform an overinstall.

When you uninstall an EPM System component, the EPM System Uninstaller also uninstalls the EPM System product. For example, uninstalling Interactive Reporting removes Financial Reporting and Web Analysis deployments and Financial Reporting services.

EPM System Uninstaller does not stop WebLogic Node Manager processes.

Workaround: Manually stop all WebLogic Node Manager processes.

Windows: EPM System Installer may fail on Windows when you reinstall after uninstalling a previous EPM System installation.

Workaround: After you uninstall, reboot the Windows machine before you reinstall to the same folder.

Translation Support

Defect Number

Known Issues

In Japanese, when you run EPM System Configurator and the Shared Services Registry database user name and password use double-byte characters (hieroglyphs), the Foundation Services Web server configuration fails.

Workaround: Change the Shared Services Registry database user name and password to non double-byte characters.

7678519, 8286979,

You must install and configure EPM System products in English. When you are using EPM products on a Turkish machine, set your Web browser language to Turkish (tr).

Foundation Services

Shared Services

Defect Number

Known Issues

If you uninstall Shared Services, not all configuration tasks appear in EPM System Configurator.

Workaround: Reinstall an existing EPM System product and restart EPM System Configurator.

For Oracle databases, if you perform the following steps, an error is displayed and EPM System Configurator closes:

1.    In EPM System Configurator, enter database information in the Registry Database Configuration dialog box and click Next. The Product Selection panel is displayed.

2.    Click Back. The Registry Configuration panel is displayed.

3.    Do not change the connection information, click Next, and select "'Connect to a previously configured Shared Services database."

Workaround: Close EPM System Configurator and re-create the registry database.

Performance Management Architect

Defect Number

Known Issues

When you run EPM System Configurator for Performance Management Architect database and interface data source configuration, if you are using an SQL Server named instance, you must specify a fixed port.

If you are using Oracle RAC for the Performance Management Architect interface data source, manually update the database connection information by editing the Shared Services Registry. Perform this task after configuring the interface data source using EPM System Configurator.

To update the database connection information for an interface data source to use Oracle RAC:

1.    On a machine hosting the EPM System software, go to EPM_ORACLE_INSTANCE/bin and run the following command:

epmsys_registry view EPMA_PRODUCT/DATABASE_CONN

Note the Component ID for the component that you want to update.

2.    Run the following command:

epmsys_registry.bat updateproperty #componentID/@dbJdbcUrl<jdbcurl>

3.    Run the following command:

epmsys_registry.bat updateproperty #componentID/@oraTNSDescription <description block>

For additional details about editing the Shared Services Registry, see "Editing the Shared Services Registry" in the Oracle Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management System Installation and Configuration Guide.

Smart View

Defect Number

Known Issues

If you install Smart View on a machine with no EPM System products installed, the Smart View installation fails to install properly.

Workaround: Install Smart View again.

Windows 2003: When you run EPM System Installer, Smart View fails to install MSXML6 module on Windows Server 2003 R2, and this causes Excel 2003 to fail when you try to open the Options dialog box.

Workaround: Manually run C:/oracle/SmartView/bin/msxml6.msi.

When running Smart View in a German locale, an error message is displayed, “ objekt Smart View Extension Activator Konnte nicht erstellt werden....".

Workaround: Check that .NET is installed properly.

When an external drive is connected, EPM System Installer installs Smart View on the external drive with no option to install on the local C:\ drive and the last used date is not updated.

Workaround: Disconnect the external drive while installing Smart View.

Smart View Client does not connect to Shared Services provider URL. The connection validation time takes longer than the default Internet Explorer timeout.

Workaround: Reset the Internet Explorer timeout:

1.    Click Start and then Run. Type regedit, and then click OK.

2.    Locate and then click the following key in the Windows registry:
CurrentVersion/Internet Settings.

3.    On the Edit menu, click New, and then click DWORD Value.

4.    Type KeepAliveTimeout, and then click ENTER.

5.    On the Edit menu, click Modify.

6.    Type a timeout value (in milliseconds), and then click OK. For example, to set the timeout value to 2 minutes, type 120000.

7.    Restart Internet Explorer.
You may also need to restart Excel to update the new timeout setting.

If you are using Smart View and Financial Management in a Windows 2003 Server 64-bit environment, you must disable IIS recycling based on memory consumption.

Essbase Server

Defect Number

Known Issues

No Defect Number

After configuring Essbase failover clusters and configuring EPM system products, you must install an OPMN patch before starting any services. Failure to install this patch prior to starting services may result in the following situations:

·         Configured OPMN service-failover processes may fail to restart if they unexpectedly terminate even when restart-on-death is set to true in opmn.xml.

·         High availability does not work if you do anything that causes opmn.xml to be reread; for example, if you are instructed by Oracle Technical Support to turn on OPMN debug.

·         On Windows x64, if you stop OPMN on the active node, the passive node may terminate abnormally.

These are the patch locations on the Oracle Automated Release Updates Web site:

·         Linux32

·         Linux x64

·         Win x64

·         Solris64

·         AIX64

·         HPUX ia64

OPMN cannot start Essbase if ARBORPATH is pointing to a mapped drive.

Workaround: Do not point ARBORPATH to a mapped drive.

On new Linux machines, Essbase may fail to start after installation. Errors messages regarding the file libstdc++ may be returned. For example:

./ESSCMD: error while loading shared libraries: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Workaround: Install compat-libstdc++.

1.    Perform an internet search for compat-libstdc++.

2.    Find a download that is appropriate for your environment, such as SUSE Linux or Red Hat Linux, 32-bit or 64-bit.

3.    Follow the instructions provided to install the file.

4.    Install Essbase.

You must include the path for LIBJVM in the Library path for Essbase.

Workaround: Edit essbase.cfg and change:

During Essbase upgrades on Solaris platforms, when the Staging Tool copies the app folder over the network, it does not copy application files with a -l bit on the permission; for example, -rwx--l--- <FILE_NAME>. Application files that have the -l bit are usually .apb, .db, and .ddb files.

Workaround: Do not select the option “Automatically copy files to a mounted or mapped file system.” You must select “Get a list of file transfer instructions” and then manually transfer the files using the tar utility.

Creating an aggregate storage tablespace file location with a path that is exactly 496 bytes long may result in abnormal program termination.

The Essbase rehosting tool attempts to correct partitions on an Essbase Release installation where the source or target reside on an older version of Essbase that does not support logical names. This results in an invalid partition.

Workaround: Upgrade both the source and target servers, or remove the partition definition before upgrading.

Essbase Server does not start after an overinstallation.

Workaround: Edit opmn.xml and add numprocs="1" on the restart-on-death line. For example,  <process-set id="AGENT" numprocs="1" restart-on-death="false">

Administration Services

Defect Number

Known Issues

After you modify the Essbase Administration Services port, the menu command Assign Access Control is no longer displayed in Shared Services.

Workaround: Log on to Essbase Administration Services Console, and use the Register All command on the appropriate Enterprise View. Navigate to Essbase Servers, then HOSTNAME, and then the Applications item.

In Essbase Administration Services, the OS_ARCH variable is set incorrectly in setManagedParamsEssbaseAdminServices.bat|sh.

Workaround: During manual deployment of Essbase Administration Services, go to <DOMAIN_HOME>\bin\setManagedParamsEssbaseAdminServices.bat|sh and change the value in OS_ARCH to 32 for a 32-bit platform or 64 for a 64-bit platform.

Integration Services

Defect Number

Known Issues

On Windows 2003 SP 1, after installation, EPM System Installer uses Windows services to start and stop the services for Integration Services. Sometimes after the services are stopped with the Windows services console, olapisvr.exe still runs.

Workaround: Manually stop the olapisvr.exe and olapisvc.exe processes.

Reporting and Analysis

Defect Number

If you are installing Interactive Reporting Dashboard Development Services, you must also download and install the files required for Framework Services and Common Libraries.

After Dashboard Development Services is installed on Windows Vista, the folders under the EPM Oracle home directory are read-only.

Workaround: Add the domain user or group to the EPM Oracle home folder security, and assign the user write permissions.

Financial Reporting

Defect Number

Known Issues

The Financial Reporting Studio installer launches a separate console window that may continue to run for a brief time after the installation completes the setup tasks. This is normal, expected behavior.

If the Financial Reporting Reports Server service is stopped before the Financial Reporting Print Server service, the Print Server service will not stop successfully.

Workaround: Stop the Financial Reporting Print Server service before stopping the Financial Reporting Reports Server service.

Production Reporting

Defect Number

Known Issues

Instead of using the Shared Services Registry to store URLs, the Production Reporting portlet uses portlet.xml when you deploy the Reporting and Analysis Framework Web application.

Workaround: Update the following portlet values in the EPM Workspace Web application portlet.xml:

·         FOUNDATION_HOST‑The EPM Workspace Web server machine host name.

·         FOUNDATION_PORT‑The EPM Workspace Web server machine listen port. The default value is 19000.

Production Reporting does not run on AIX 6.1 32-bit.

Workaround: To run Production Reporting on AIX, you must change to 64-bit.

Web Analysis

Defect Number

Known Issues

Web Analysis fails when trying to save User Preferences because static content files are not present in common/epmstatic.

Workaround:Copy common/epmstatic/webanalysis from the Oracle HTTP Server (OHS) to the same location on the server where Web Analysis is installed.

Financial Performance Management Applications

Financial Close Management

Defect Number

Known Issues

In Windows 2008 Server SP2 32-bit Enterprise edition, Financial Close Management fails to start with "unresolved application library references."

Workaround: Ensure that the oracle.soa.workflow.wc and oracle.soa.worklist.webapp libraries have deployment targets set to AdminServer, SOA Managed Server, and FinancialClose Managed Server.

For Financial Close Management installations, after installing and configuring SOA in a new installation, or after upgrading SOA for a maintenance release installation, apply the following patches for Oracle Fusion Middleware, available on My Oracle Support:

·         11837635 - PSE FOR BASE BUG 11063511 ON TOP OF (PSE #527410).

·         11864201 -  PSE FOR MLR BUG 11864201 ON TOP OF (PSE #536496)

Shut down the Financial Close Management managed server, the SOA Server, and all managed servers before you apply a patch. Review the patch Readmes for information on how to apply a patch.

·         For patch 11837635, set the ORACLE_HOME environment variable to ../Oracle/Middleware/Oracle_SOA1

·         For patch 11864201, set the ORACLE_HOME environment variable to MIDDLEWARE_HOME/oracle_common

When starting database configuration over again for Financial Close Management, do not use EPM System Configurator to drop and re-create tables on an existing database; instead, you should configure to a new, unpopulated database.

Financial Management

Defect Number

Known Issues

Microsoft Windows 2003 SP2: In some Windows 2003 SP2 installations, clients may experience “Access Denied” issues while connecting from Financial Management or Financial Reporting. The client machine event log displays a “General access denied” error message.

Workaround: Add the following DWORD value to the Windows registry if it does not already exist:

1.    In the Registry Editor, under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows NT\Rpc, add a new DWORD value with the name Server2003NegotiateDisable.

2.    Right-click Server2003NegotiateDisable and click Modify.

3.    For the Value Data, enter 1, and click OK.

4.    Note: This setting disables the bind-time negotiation and multiple-transfer syntax negotiation.

5.    Exit the Windows Registry Editor and restart the computer.

After EPM System Installer installs Financial Management on a 32-bit or 64-bit machine, the email alerts from Financial Management do not work because EPM System Installer did not register Microsoft .NET Framework Mailer.dll.

Workaround: Register Mailer.dll, locate and run the correct register command on your system:

·         32-bit: C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\
<v2.X.XXXXX>\RegAsm.exe /codebase <
EPM_ORACLE_HOME> products\FinancialManagement\Web Server\Mailer.dll

·         64-bit: C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\
<v2.X.XXXXX>\RegAsm.exe /codebase <
EPM_ORACLE_HOME>\products\FinancialManagement\Web Server\Mailer.dll

When you deploy Financial Management, you may receive the following error:

“Please install missing templates: Oracle JRF WebServices Asynchronous services”

JRF WebServices Asynchronous services are required only if you are using Financial Management with Financial Close Management. If you are not using Financial Management with Financial Close Management, you do not have to select the Deploy to Application Server task in EPM System Configurator for Financial Management. If you inadvertently select Deploy to Application Server for Financial Management, you can ignore any error messages. You need a working Financial Management Web Services Web application deployment only if you are using Financial Management with Financial Close Management.

In order to use the Financial Management Lifecycle Management Web service, you must manually install Web Services Extensions 3.

If you use Oracle Database Client 10.2.x or 11.1.x for Financial Management, you must set the StmtCacheSize registry setting for Oracle OLE DB to 10 on all Financial Management application servers. This is due to a memory issue in Oracle Provider for OLE DB. The registry setting path is: Hkey_Local_Machine\Software\Oracle\Key_Homename\Oledb.  Note that the 11.2.x Oracle Database Client should not be changed.

To resolve the high memory usage:

1.    Enable Statement Caching. (The configured value must not be zero. The recommended value is between and 1 and 10.)

2.    Edit the following registry value: Hkey_Local_Machine\Software\Oracle\Key_Homename\Oledb Value Name: StmtCacheSize Value (decimal): 1 where Key_Homename refers to the appropriate Oracle Home.

3.    Stop and restart the HFM application processes.

In addition, if you are using System 11 on a 64-bit operating system with a 10g database, the Oracle OLE provider on all Financial Management servers must be at least  If you are using 32-bit with 10g, the OLE provider must be at least as high a version as your database server. If you are running 32-bit or 64-bit and using or OLE Provider, you must upgrade to Oracle Database Client

EPM System Configurator does not detect registered Financial Management clusters.

Workaround: When configuring on the remote server, select the "DB Config" task along with other Financial Management configuration tasks. Available clusters and servers will then be visible on the Server/Cluster Configuration panel.

After installing and configuring Foundation Services and Financial Management, application creation may fail with the following error:

The specified module could not be found.
Error Number:-2147024770
Error Description:006~ASP 0177~Server.CreateObject Failed~8007007e

Copying and Pasting Code Snippets from PDFs

When you cut and paste code snippets from a PDF file, some characters can be lost during the paste operation, making the code snippet invalid.
Workaround: Cut and paste from the HTML version of the document.

Task Flows Scripts Location

All scripts that are to be executed during a taskflow stage must be stored in a dedicated directory. The default location for the directory containing such scripts is epm_oracle_home/common/utilities.

If you want to store taskflow scripts in a directory other than the default directory, you must update a Shared Services Registry property by running one of the following commands at a command prompt:

·         epmsys_registry.bat updateproperty SHARED_SERVICES_PRODUCT/@workflowEngine.ces.location SCRIPT_LOCATION (Windows)

· updateproperty SHARED_SERVICES_PRODUCT/@workflowEngine.ces.location SCRIPT_LOCATION (UNIX/LINUX)

In these commands, replace SCRIPT_LOCATION with the absolute path of the directory where taskflow scripts are stored.

For example, you may run the following command for a Windows deployment:

epmsys_registry.bat updateproperty

SHARED_SERVICES_PRODUCT/@workflowEngine.ces.location C:\taskflowscripts

You must secure the SCRIPT_LOCATION directory from unauthorized access. Further, to enhance security, run services and processes using a secure user account.
