How can I make ZoneAlarm work with Oracle Drive?

If you have ZoneAlarm firewall software installed on your computer, you must configure it to allow Oracle Drive to work properly with it. By default, ZoneAlarm blocks access to Oracle Drive remote servers. To allow Oracle Drive to access a remote server, you must add the remote server's host name to the list of permitted servers in ZoneAlarm. The host name is the name of the Oracle Drive remote server that you connect to (for example, myserver.mycompany.com). Refer to the ZoneAlarm documentation for information on adding the host name to the list of servers in the ZoneAlarm trusted zone.

How large a file can I upload or download?

You can use Oracle Drive to upload or download files up to 4GB in size. When uploading or downloading a file that's less than 4GB in size, if you see the error message: "Error 58 : Operation cannot be performed by the server," configure Oracle Drive to point directly to the non-WebCache port on the server, and try again.

Saving files to a remote folder fails

If you attempt to save files to a remote folder that requires category or workflow information, the operation will fail. This limitation is due to the fact that the WebDAV protocol does not provide a facility to enter metadata. Contact the folder owner to tell them you are unable to save files to the folder.

I can't connect because a message says "username or password is incorrect"

If you get this message when you try to connect to an Oracle Drive service, try the following:

  • Enter your username in lower case, and do not include the domain name (@mycompany.com).
  • Try logging in from a browser window to see if you get the same error. In a browser window, enter the URL for the server (for example, http://myserver.mycompany.com/content/dav) in the browser's Address field, and then try to log in.

If you are still not able to connect, ask your administrator how to reset your WebDAV password. Once your password is reset, you should be able to connect to Oracle Drive services.

I can't connect because a message says "problem connecting"

If you get this message when you try to connect to an Oracle Drive service, try the following:

  • Make sure that the server name and port for the Oracle Drive service is correct.
  • Make sure that the proxy settings for Oracle Drive are correct.
  • Try logging in from a browser window to see if you get the same error. In a browser window, enter the URL for the server (for example, http://myserver.mycompany.com/content/dav) in the browser's Address field, and then try to log in.

If you are still not able to connect, ask your administrator what the correct Oracle Drive settings are for server name, port, and proxy settings.

I can't connect because a message says "The system cannot find the path specified"

If you entered your user name and password correctly but you get this message when you try to connect to an Oracle Drive service, you may have specified an incorrect Web address for the Server URL. See the Oracle Drive online help for instructions on entering the Web address for the Server URL. If you don't know the Web address to enter, contact your administrator.

You may also see this message if Oracle Drive is trying to use proxy settings to connect to the server. To turn off proxy settings in Oracle Drive:

  1. Open Oracle Drive and click the Options tab.
  2. Click Proxy Settings.
  3. Remove the checkbox under Protocol, and click OK.
  4. Try connecting again.

I can't connect because a message says "Cannot find the file specified"

You may get this message if the "ODrive Service" is not running on your computer. This may happen after you have other errors on your system. The ODrive Service needs to be running in order for Oracle Drive to function properly. You typically don't need to start the ODrive Service unless it has stopped running.

To start the ODrive Service:

  1. Do one of the following:
    • (Windows 2000, Windows XP with Class View) From the Windows Start menu, select Settings, then select Control Panel, then open Administrative Tools, then open Services.
    • (Windows XP with Category View) From the Windows Start menu, select Settings, then select Control Panel, then open Performance and Maintenance, then open Administrative Tools, then open Services.
  2. Scroll down to find ODrive Service.
  3. Right-click ODrive Service and select Start.
  4. Try connecting again.

What happens when I delete a link to a folder?

When you delete a link to a folder, you may see the Windows message "Preparing to delete," as Oracle Drive opens every folder in the folder tree under that link. This is standard Windows behavior, because Windows thinks that the link is a folder. Only the link is actually deleted. Alternatively, you can use the Content DB Web client to delete the link.

How can I prevent Oracle Drive from downloading some files automatically?

When you open a folder for the first time, or if Oracle Drive is set to refresh files and folders every 15 seconds, Oracle Drive may automatically download any file with a .exe, .pdf, or .jpg extension. This is due to Windows behavior. To prevent this behavior, set your Windows Explorer windows to open in List view or Details view. Reducing the refresh interval to 15 minutes or 1 hour also helps to eliminate this problem. See the Oracle Drive help for the steps to adjust the refresh interval.

When saving a file using the Save As dialog, a message says "The file doesn't exist. It was probably removed from the cache."

You may see this error message if you are copying a file to the server when the network connection fails, and you attempt to save the file using the Save As dialog. In spite of what the message says, you can still find the file in the Oracle Drive cache directory on your computer. The Oracle Drive cache directory is located at: C:\Documents and Settings\your Windows username\Application Data\Oracle\ODrive\cache\.

No search results are returned when using Oracle Drive with Windows XP SP2 or later

If you try to search for files or folders by selecting the Windows Start menu, then selecting Search, and then selecting For Files and Folders, no search results are returned when using Oracle Drive (both in online or offline mode) with Windows XP SP2 or later. To fix this problem, you must apply Microsoft hotfix 885843. The Microsoft link for more information about this issue is http://support.microsoft.com/kb/885843/. After extracting the hotfix executable, run the file WindowsXP-KB885843-x86-enu.exe . Do not run WindowsXP-KB885843-x86-Symbols-enu.exe, since it is used only for debugging purposes.

Why don't files immediately appear in the Trash folder or in other folders?

If you delete a file, it may not immediately appear in the Trash folder. Similarly, when other users create files, the files may not immediately appear in the folders in which they were created. Refreshing the folder view should fix this issue.

To refresh the folder view:

  1. Right-click the Oracle Drive icon in the Windows taskbar tray (located at the bottom right corner of your screen).
  2. Select Refresh.
  3. Open the Windows Explorer window to display the folder, and press F5 to refresh the folder view.

Alternatively, you can decrease the refresh interval in Oracle Drive. See the Oracle Drive help for the steps to adjust the refresh interval.

How can I open a Microsoft Office 2003 file and then close it without modifying it?

If you open a Microsoft Word 2003 or Microsoft Excel 2003 file, just opening the file creates a new version, even if you close the file without changing its content. To avoid this issue, open the file from within the Microsoft Office 2003 application. In the Open dialog box, select Open Read-Only.
