umount is a target utility.
umount is available in two forms:
as a C_INIT(1M) built-in command; in that case, the configuration of the ADMIN_MOUNT feature is required
as a standalone command
umount calls the unmount(2POSIX) system call to remove a remote node (hostaddr:file_system) or special_device from the file system tree at the mount_point.
umount supports the following options:
Unmounts all file systems listed in fstab(4CC)
Unmounts all the currently mounted file systems except the root.
Forces unmount of the filesystem. Active special devices continue to work, but all other files return errors if further accesses are attempted.
The root file system (/) cannot be forcibly unmounted.
Only file systems mounted from the specified host will be unmounted. This option implies the -A option and unless otherwise specified with the -t option, will only unmount NFS file systems.
Indicates the file system type to which the action applies. For example:
umount -a -t nfs,ufs
Verbose mode. Additional information is displayed as each file system is unmounted.
/etc/fstab file system table
