Preface

This document describes the messages generated by the Suntrademark Mainframe Transaction Processing software (Sun MTP); intersystem communications (ISC); 3270 clients; the Sun Mainframe Security Facility (Sun MSF); and kixnrfs, the Sun MTP Native Recovery File System (NRFS) configuration utility.

How This Book Is Organized

Chapter 1 lists the Sun MTP and ISC messages in numerical order.

Chapter 2 lists the messages produced by the 3270 client and the 3270 client initiator.

Chapter 3 lists the messages generated by Sun MSF.

Chapter 4 lists the messages issued by kixnrfs.

Appendix A contains a lists of ISC suberror codes.

Message Categories

There are three message categories:

System

Information about the operation of the Sun MTP software. They are written to the files unikixmain.log and unikixmain.err. Most messages are in this category.

Application

Displays when a transaction aborts and appears on line 24 of the transaction screen.

Utility

Generated by the Development System and other configuration utilities, such as the Sun MTP Table Manager, File Manager, Record Editor, and the Screen Generation Utility (SGU). These messages appear on line 23 of the screen of the issuing utility.

In addition, Sun MTP might report messages from the optional Sun Mainframe Batch Manager (Sun MBM) message exchange facility (MEF). Text of these messages might include MEF as the source of the message.

Message Format

The Sun MTP messages use the following format:

KIX####a Text of message

where:

####

Error number

a

Letter indicating the severity of the error

  • I

Informational message

  • W

Warning message

  • E

Nonfatal error

  • F

  • T

Transaction termination occurred that did not affect Sun MTP

Text of message

Message. In some cases, the name of the subroutine that originated the message appears in brackets before the message text. In these cases, the message appears as:

KIX####a [subroutine_name] Text of message

For convenience, the messages are listed in numerical order, and the KIX prefix is omitted from the error numbers. In the message text, the following variables are used:

%c

Replaced in the message by a single character.

%d

Replaced in the message by a decimal value.

%s

Replaced in the message by a string of characters.

%r

Replaced in the message by the name of a subroutine or method.

%x

Replaced in the message by a hexadecimal value.
