To start a GNOME Desktop session, users must log in to authenticate their
identity. The login screen provides a gateway to the GNOME Desktop for the
user. The GNOME Display Manager
(GDM
) application controls the login screen. You can configure GDM
to customize how users log in to the system.
GDM
also enables you to log in to a new session.
You do not need to log out from the current session before you log in to the
new session.
