Long Description for Figure 2

Figure 2 shows the sequence of tasks for preinstallation planning. There are a number of decision points in this sequence.

Task 1: Does your deployment plan require Sun Cluster software? If yes, see Java Enterprise System Installation Guide, Chapter 2, "High Availability Using Sun Cluster software." If no, proceed to the next task.

Task 2: Identify dependencies of the components you are installing. See Java Enterprise System Installation Guide, Chapter 2, "Component Product Dependencies."

Task 3: Do the dependencies identified in the previous step require you to install additional components? If yes, add the components required by dependencies to your installation plan.

Task 4: If any component products are already installed on your machines, do they require upgrades to the correct version? To determine this, see Java Enterprise System Installation Guide, Chapter 2, "Determining Your Upgrade Needs." Upgrade component products as necessary before proceeding.

Task 5: Do your machines require upgrades? To determine this, see Java Enterprise System Installation Guide, Chapter 2, "Verifying System Readiness." Upgrade the machines as necessary before proceeding.

Task 6: Determine how you want to run the installer. GUI-mode, text-based mode, and silent mode are available. For information, see Java Enterprise System Installation Guide, Chapter 2, "Choosing an Installation Mode."

Task 7: Determine how you want to configure the component products you install. Options are custom configuration and minimal configuration. See Java Enterprise System Installation Guide, Chapter 2, "Choosing a Configuration Type."

Task 8: Gather the information needed for configuration. See Java Enterprise System Installation Guide, Chapter 3, "Gathering Installation and Configuration Information."

The task flow continues in Figure 3.
