Preface

The Java Desktop System Configuration Manager Release 1.1 Developer Guide provides guidelines for developers who want to enable applications for the Java^TM Desktop System Configuration Manager, Release 1.1. It provides the necessary knowledge about how to centrally manage the configuration of software applications that are not recognized by the Java Desktop System Configuration Manager by default.

After you have read this document, you will be able to create and deploy files, called “templates”, that contain information about where to store and how to display new configuration settings. This document also provides design recommendations, information about creating advanced templates, and reference information, which will help you to build the templates that you need.

The Java Desktop System Configuration Manager Release 1.1 Developer Guide is aimed at developers and advanced site administrators who want to extend the Configuration Manager to be able to centrally configure additional applications and settings.

Before You Read This Book

It is recommended that you read at least Chapter 1, Concepts, in Java Desktop System Configuration Manager Release 1.1 Administration Guide, and have some experience in administering and using the Configuration Manager. Some knowledge of XML is helpful, but not essential.
