Email Functions

Table C–1 lists the keyboard shortcuts that you can use to perform general email functions.

Move focus between the following interface items, in the following order: 

  • Folder pane

  • The elements in the searchbar

  • Message list

  • If the preview pane is displayed, the active elements in the selected message, such as the To and From email addresses.

Shift + Tab

Move focus between the interface items listed for the Tab key, in reverse order.

Select the message at the top of the list.

Select the message at the bottom of the list.

Select the previous or next message.

Tab

Move focus between the active elements in the message from the top to the bottom. Active elements include the following: 

  • To and From email addresses.

  • HTML elements.

  • Buttons that represent attachments.

  • If an attachment is displayed within the message, active elements within the attachment.

Shift + Tab

Move focus between the elements listed for the Tab key, in reverse order.

Return

Perform the default action on the element that has focus. For example, if the right side of an attachment button is selected, press Return to open a popup menu that enables you to perform actions on the attachment.

Ctrl + Tab

When you view a message in the preview pane, move the focus to the folder pane. 

Ctrl + Shift + Tab

When you view a message in the preview pane, move the focus to the message list. 

F7

Turns caret mode on and off. Caret mode enables you to use the keyboard to select text when you view a message.
