FAT versus NTFS Hard Disks

FAT and NTFS are file system formats used with Windows hard disks. If you are planning to run a D: drive on Windows NT, you may want to set it up as an NTFS drive. NTFS (NT File System) drives work more quickly under Windows NT.

The Microsoft NT Workstation Start Here manual (the hard copy manual included in your Windows NT installation package) discusses the differences between FAT and NTFS. It also discusses the conversion process, how to use Disk Administrator to convert FAT disks to NTFS, and the convert function.
