Advanced Performance Tuning

The amtune tool is specifically designed to address most, if not all, of the performance tuning needs. This means that you almost never need to manually tweak performance parameters. With the large number of performance related parameters, tweaking them invite more problems instead of solving them. However, there are a few special situations that amtune currently does not tune or tune well. For each special situation, there is an explanation of what amtune is doing today, how to identify whether you need to manually tune the parameters, and how to tune them. It is worth repeating here that most, if not all, of your performance tuning should be addressed by the amtune tool. Performance problems are usually caused by poor system configuration. The special tuning cases should be used only if they actually apply to your specific case.
