Preface

The Solaris 8 (SPARC Platform Edition) Installation Guide describes how to use SolarisTM Web Start to install and upgrade the Solaris operating environment and related software on a single SPARCTM based system from a local CD-ROM drive.

This book does not describe how to install the Solaris operating environment on networked systems or how to use the Solaris 8 Interactive Installation Program, Solaris JumpStartTM, or Solaris custom JumpStart to set up, automate, customize, and perform the installation of Solaris on any number of systems in a large enterprise network environment. These advanced topics are covered in the Solaris 8 Advanced Installation Guide.
