sysidnet Cannot Autodetect Default Router (4384377)

When you install the Solaris 8 4/01 operating environment the system cannot autodetect the default router (gateway) if:

• The bootparams server on the local subnet does not have a bootparams entry

  Or

• There is no bootparams server on the local subnet

Hosts on the local subnet are accessible, but configuration of any services outside of the local subnet will fail. An error message is displayed indicating that the host is not accessible or could not be found.

The problem commonly occurs when booting from a CD.

Workaround: Choose one of the following workarounds.

• If you have a bootparams server on the local subnet:

  1. Add a bootparams entry to the server.

  2. Type the following command in a terminal window.

     # /sbin/hostconfig/ -p bootparams

• If you do not have a bootparams server, type the following command in a terminal window.

  #/sbin/in.rdisc -s

If you install with the command line interface (CLI), you must first exit the installation program, run one of the previous commands, then restart the installation program.
