Before beginning the installation, read Planning for Java CAPS Installation, which contains information such as supported platforms, operating system limitations, parameter definitions, and the like. This information is necessary for you to complete a successful installation of Java CAPS.
Complete Graphical User Interface Installation
The following software is installed:
Sun Java System Application Server (SJSAS) 9.1 UR2
NetBeansTM IDE 6.1 ML
IDE is an acronym for an integrated development environment. It consists of a number of components, such as a compiler, source code editor, build tools, debugger, browser, object inspector, class hierarchy diagram, and so on. These components can be used when performing object-oriented software development. The integrated tools can also be used to build a graphical user interface (GUI).
Java CAPS Repository v. 6
Java CAPS Enterprise Manager v. 6
Sun JMS IQTM Manager v. 6
UDDI Server
Businesses use Universal Description, Discovery, and Integration (UDDI), an XML-based registry, to list themselves on the Internet. Similar in function to a telephone book, this registry enables companies to engage in e-commerce on the web.

Java Business Integration (JBI) components
Eviware, a partner product
The GUI installation is divided into four installation segments:
Java CAPS Installer installs the Sun Java System Application Server 9.1, NetBeans IDE 6.1 ML (which installs Java CAPS plugins), five Java CAPS core products, nine Java CAPS Adapters, Java CAPS Repository version 6, Enterprise Manager version 6, Sun JMS IQ Manager version 6, and the UDDI Server.
Java CAPS EE Update Center in NetBeans IDE downloads modules from the Java CAPS Repository.
If you install NetBeans IDE during the initial installation, you do not need to download modules until updates become available.
Java CAPS Uploader (formerly known as the Suite Installer) uploads and installs additional Java CAPS components that require a Repository. These components include all SAR files that were not installed using the Java CAPS Installer or the NetBeans IDE Update Center. The Uploader also enables you to download and extract ZIP files.
Java CAPS Enterprise Manager Web Applications Manager installs Java CAPS component plugins. These plugins are listed under the Downloads tab in the Java CAPS Uploader, and include adapter plugins, as well as plugins for other product components, such as the Web Services, Composite Page Designer, and Business Process Manager.
You do not have to install all of the software and components at the same time. You can install additional Java CAPS products and components at any time after completing the initial installation using the NetBeans IDE Update Center and Java CAPS Uploader and selecting the items from a list.
Java CAPS Release 6 does not support spaces in the installation directory path.
The process also installs the Sun Uninstallation software.
You must have the JDKTM (Java Development Kit) software installed and JAVA_HOME set prior to installing Java CAPS or the Installer will halt the installation. See Installing the JDK Software and Setting JAVA_HOME for details.
