Preface

What's New in the Solaris 9 8/03 Operating Environment describes the features in the Solaris^TM 9 8/03 Update release. Chapter 1 summarizes new features that were added in all of the Solaris 9 Update releases. Chapter 2 provides a list of all enhancements that were included in the original Solaris 9 operating environment.

The Solaris operating environment runs on the SPARC® platform and certain x86 platforms. The information in this document pertains to all platforms unless otherwise specified in a special chapter, section, note, bulleted item, figure, table, or example.

Typographic Conventions

The following table describes the typographic changes used in this book.

Table P–1 Typographic Conventions

Numerals in parentheses next to a command or function name, for example, ioctl(2), indicate the reference manual section number where the manual page (“man page”) for the command or function is located.
