Appendix A Migrating Community Templates

Overview of the New Role Templates

It is highly recommended that the community templates created using prior releases of the Portal Server software be migrated to fully take advantage of the new membership features in this release of the Portal Server software.

The following are a new set of role templates that are included in this Portal Server release:

• deleted.xml

• disabled.xml

To migrate, add these new role templates into any existing community templates that were created before this release of the Portal Server software. For reference, refer to the out-of-box community templates located under PortalServer-baseDir/par-src/community_samples/pbfiles/communityTemplateBaseDir directory. Modifications to the community templates will not affect any existing communities on the system. The effect is only on the communities created using the updated community templates.

Portal Server Communities

All existing communities created by prior releases of the Portal Server software can still operate on an upgraded system. However, they will not be able to fully take advantage of the new community membership feature.

Community Templates

The community templates that had been created and customized using prior releases of the Portal Server software must be converted to include the additional role templates for the newly added roles. Otherwise, the communities that are created based on the older community templates will not be able to fully take advantage of the new community membership features.
