The start-database command starts the Derby database server that is included with the Sun Java System Application Server software for use with the Application Server samples. When the database is started, the log is directed to AS_DERBY_INSTALL/db.log. If you do not set the AS_DERBY_INSTALL environment variable, the default is install_dir/derby.
The database must be started by the user that installed the Derby database server.
This command is supported in local mode only.
The host name or IP address of the Derby database. The default is the IP address 0.0.0.0, which listens on all interfaces.
The port name of the Derby database. The default is 1572.
The absolute path to the directory where the Derby database is created. The default is install_dir/derby.
The following command starts the Derby database on the host host1 and port 5001:
asadmin> start-database --dbhost host1 --dbport 5001 Starting database in the background. Log redirected to /opt/SUNWAppserver/derby/db.log.
The exit status applies to errors in executing the asadmin command. For information on database errors, see the derby/db.log file. The default location for this file is install_dir/derby/db.log.
