Product Features

The Cisco MDS 9000 SSM provides up to 32 2-Gbps Fibre Channel (FC) ports. The Cisco MDS 9000 SSM features embedded application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs) designed to deliver performance improvements for third-party intelligent fabric applications.

The Cisco MDS 9000 SSM incorporates all the capabilities of the Cisco MDS 9000 Family 32-port 2-Gbps FC Switching Module, plus a variety of innovative storage services. The SSM is available in a 32-port configuration and accepts the Cisco 2-Gbps FC small form-factor pluggable (SFP) optical modules.

Note - Sun supports only the hardware of the Cisco MDS 9000 SSM. Sun does not support third-party applications running on top of the hardware.

Supported Software

This section describes the software that can be used with the Cisco MDS 9000 SSM:

Firmware Requirements

Sun supports only FC connectivity and FC Write Acceleration on the SSM, as well as SSM with DMM. See Cisco Data Mobility Manager (DMM) for further information regarding DMM. Sun does not support third-party applications.

Supported Management Software

You can manage the Cisco MDS 9000 SSM using any of the following software management tools:

You can find information about these tools at the Cisco product documentation web site here:

http://cisco.com/en/US/support/index.html

Cisco Data Mobility Manager (DMM)

The Cisco MDS DMM is a storage area network (SAN), fabric-based software application that enables movement of data blocks from a source device to a destination device. Such movement is typically needed to address array lease expiration events, capacity planning, and implementation of tiered storage strategies. The Cisco MDS DMM feature is enabled through a separate end-user software license.

DMM requires SAN-OS 3.2(2c) (minimum) in conjunction with SSI 3.2(2b) (minimum).

Supported Hardware

Sun supports only FC connectivity and FC Write Acceleration on the SSM, as well as SSM with DMM. See Cisco Data Mobility Manager (DMM) for further information regarding DMM. Sun does not support third-party applications.
