Envelope Feeder Guide



The SPARCprinterTM E envelope feeder enables you to feed envelopes in stacks. It replaces the manual feed tray on the printer and contains a manual feed slot in addition to the envelope feeder.

Note - Either the manual feed tray or the envelope feeder must be installed on the printer at all times to prevent light from entering the print cartridge through the opening on the back of the printer. Exposing the print cartridge to light can cause poor print quality.

This document tells you how to install the envelope feeder. For instructions on how to use the envelope feeder, see the SPARCprinter E Hardware Installation and User's Guide .

Installing the Envelope Feeder

To install the envelope feeder you will:

    1. Connect the feeder.
    2. Verify the installation.

Connect the Feeder

    1. Turn the printer power Off (0).
    2. Unplug the power cord from the printer.
    3. Disconnect all cables from the back of the printer.
    4. Remove the manual feed tray from the back of the printer.

    5. Locate the tabs on the feeder.

    6. Slide the feeder tabs into the two slots on the back of the printer.

    The feeder drops into place. It should fit snugly against the back of the printer.

    7. Insert the feeder cable plug into the connector on the back of the printer.

    8. Reconnect all other cables.
    9. Plug the power cord into the printer and turn the printer power switch On.

Verify the Installation

If the envelope feeder has been correctly installed, the printer will recognize that it is available as a paper source.

    1. Make sure the printer power is On (|) and the Ready status message appears on the operator panel.
    2. Choose MENUS.
    3. Choose PAPER MENU.
    4. Choose Paper Source.

    Feeder should appear as a paper source. If not, complete the following steps.

      a. Turn the printer power Off and check the feeder cable connection.
      b. Turn the printer power On and repeat the steps to verify feeder installation.

Note - If you choose Feeder as the paper source from the operator panel, it will be the primary paper source for the whole network.

The SPARCprinter E has a feature that enhances envelope printing. To use this feature, perform the following steps from the operator panel.

    1. Choose PAPER MENU.
    2. Choose More.
    3. Choose Envelope Enhance.
    4. Select ON.

    The operator panel will then save the information and return to the Paper Menu.

    5. Press the Ready button to return to the Main Menu.

Note - If you did not specify the Envelope Feeder option during initial software setup, you will need to remove and reinstall the printer software configuration and specify the Envelope Feeder option. You will not be able to use this option until you perform the reconfiguration. Refer to the SPARCprinter E Software Installation and User's Guide for more information.
