Inserting the Adapter

You can install the adapter only in the SUN PCI platforms. Make sure that you insert the adapter in a 33MHz slot rather than a 66MHz slot.

Handling precautions

  1. Before taking the adapter from its anti-static packaging, discharge yourself of static electricity by touching the metal chassis of your computer.
  2. In dry climates or other environments where static electricity is prevalent, wear a grounding strap on your wrist before handling the adapter or removing the cover from your computer.
  3. Always handle the adapter carefully by its edges and avoid touching any of the components or connectors.
Installing the Sun TRI/P adapter:
  1. Turn off the power to the computer before you install or remove any adapters.
  2. Remove the blanking plate from an empty PCI slot.
  3. Insert the adapter into the slot.
  4. Secure the adapter by using the retaining screw from the blanking plate that you removed.
  5. Connect a data-cable to the appropriate connector on the adapter: the 9-pin D-type connector for STP cabling or the RJ45 connector for UTP cabling. The Sun TRI/P adapter automatically detects the type of cabling you connect to the adapter.
  6. Connect the other end of the data-cable to a token-ring network.
  7. Power-up the machine.
