Preface

This manual, Sun Cluster 2.2 Cluster Volume Manager Guide, describes Cluster Volume Manager (CVM) as it is used with Sun Cluster systems. CVM is a variation of and incorporates the Sun StorEdge Volume Manager^TM (SSVM). It is produced by Veritas. CVM is designed specifically for use in a clustered system environment.

This manual is written for two audiences: experienced system administrators with networking knowledge and programmers who are designing applications that incorporate and/or use Sun Cluster.

In order to fully use the information in this document, you must be thoroughly familiar with the topics described in the books referenced in the section "Related Documents" as appropriate to your purchased product. For procedural information and document references, refer to the appropriate manual. For terms and definitions, refer to the glossary in the Sun Cluster 2.2 System Administration Guide.

Typographic Conventions

Table P-1 Typographic Conventions


Typeface or Symbol	Meaning	Examples
`AaBbCc123`	The names of commands, files, and directories; on-screen computer output.	Edit your `.login` file. Use `ls -a` to list all files. `% You have mail`.
`AaBbCc123`	What you type, when contrasted with on-screen computer output.	`%` `su` `Password:`
`AaBbCc123`	Book titles, new words or terms, words to be emphasized. Command-line variable; replace with a real name or value.	Read Chapter 6 in the User's Guide. These are called class options. You must be `root` to do this. To delete a file, type `rm` `filename`.
