What's in this package
The iPlanet Application Builder Version 6.0 Service Pack 1 kit includes:
- A developer's copy of the iPlanet Application Server 6.0 Service Pack 1 Revision B and associated documentation.
- The iPlanet Application Builder 6.0 Service Pack 1 tool and associated documentation.
- The iPlanet Application Server Integration Tool for VisualCafé and associated documentation.
- A copy of Forte for Java Community Edition and a Technical Note describing how to develop, test, and debug with the iPlanet Application Server runtime environment.
You may build your iPlanet Application Server applications by:
- Using the iPlanet Application Builder tool which provides transparent integration with the iPlanet Application Server.
- Using a third party Java IDE such as Forte for Java, or WebGain VisualCafé which provide some level of integration with the iPlanet Application Server.
- Using a text editor program and a set of command line scripts to deploy and test the application with the iPlanet Application Server (see the iPlanet Sample Applications Webpage).

The iPlanet Application Server
The iPlanet Application Server included in this package is for development purposes ONLY. The iPlanet application Server distribution is located in the iab directory.
Installation on Windows NT:
A single unified installation script installs both the iPlanet Application Server and the iPlanet Application Builder. If you wish to install the iPlanet Application Server without the iPlanet Application Builder tool, you must:
- Select the "Custom Install" option during the installation setup.
- Uncheck the iPlanet Application Builder Component from the list of modules to be installed.
Installation on Solaris:
A separate installation script installs the iPlanet Application Server.See the Installation Instructions located in the iab directory on the CD for more details about the installation process.
The iPlanet Application Builder
The iPlanet Application Builder provides rapid application development capability and full integration with the iPlanet Application Server.See the Installation Instructions located in the iab directory on the CD for more details about the installation process.
Integration Tool for VisualCafé
The WebGain directory on the CD contains the iPlanet Application Server Integration Tool for VisualCafé.The integration tool is intended for use with VisualCafé Enterprise Edition 4.0 or WebGain Studio 4.0. It provides transparent integration, automated testing and debugging with the iPlanet Application Server. See the Installation Instructions located in the webgain directory on the CD for more details about the installation process.
If you do not have VisualCafé Enterprise Edition 4.0 or WebGain Studio 4.0 installed on your machine, you can download an evaluation copy of WebGain Studio at: http://www.webgain.com/Products/Studio/WebGain_Studio_trialware.htm
Forte For Java
A free copy of Forte for Java Community Edition is provided in the forte directory on the CD. You can use Forte for Java Community Edition to build and debug iPlanet Application Server applications on Windows NT and Solaris. See the Forte for Java Technical Note located in the forte directory on the CD for more details about how to setup and use Forte for Java for debugging iPlanet Application Server applications.
