Running the Tutorial

Before you can use the iPlanet Developer Pack Application Server Tutorial to create a Container Managed Persistence EJB, you must have an Oracle database setup. A database table setup script is provided to assist you in this process. The script is located in the <ForteInstallDir>\iplanet\Samples\db directory.

Additionally, you can use the Pointbase database that is available with Forte for Java and the iPlanet Application Server. However, you will need to modify the tutorial sample code to identify the Pointbase database instead of the Oracle database.

To setup the database table from an NT or Windows 2000 machine:

  1. Navigate to the <ForteInstallDir>\iplanet\Samples\db directory.
  2. Execute the load_ora.bat script with the following parameters:

    • datasource name
    • database user name
    • database password

For example: load_ora.bat dbSol0 iplanet iplanet

The script creates a table named obcustomer.

To setup the database table from a Solaris machine:

  1. Navigate to the <ForteInstallDir>/iplanet/Samples/db directory.
  2. Execute the load_ora.sh script.
  3. When prompted identify the following variables:

    • ORACLE_HOME directory
    • ORACLE_SID
    • username
    • password

If the specified username is not found in the database, the script prompts you to create one.

The script creates a table named obcustomer.
