Before You Begin

Before you install the iPlanet Developer Pack Web Server Integration Tool with Forte for Java Version 3.0 Enterprise Edition tool, you need to install:


System Requirements

The hardware and software requirements for installing and running the Developer Pack are as follows:

  Windows NT/2000 Machine SolarisTM Machine
Operating System: 350MHz Intel Pentium IITM, NT Version 4.0 with Service Pack 5, or Windows 2000 PE (minimum)
450 MHz Intel Pentium IIITM, NT Version 4.0 with Service Pack 5, or Windows 2000 PE (recommended)
SolarisTM 8, UltraTM 10 (minimum)
SolarisTM 8, UltraTM 60 (recommended)
Memory: per CPU: 512 MB per CPU: 512 MB)
Available disk space: per CPU: 5 MB (minimum)
8 MB (recommended)
5 MB (minimum)
8 MB (recommended)

Installing the iPlanet Developer Pack Web Server Integration Tool

The iPlanet Web Server Integration Tool installer checks for the following before initiating the installation process: If any of the above items are not properly installed or set, you will be prompted to resolve these issues before installing the iPlanet Web Server Integration Tool.

Additionally, you must exit the Forte for Java IDE before installing the iPlanet Web Server Integration Tool.

To install the iPlanet Web Server Integration Tool on a Windows NT/2000 system:

  1. Insert the iPlanet Developer Pack CD in the CD-ROM drive.
  2. Navigate to the Forte_for_Java\Windows\iWSPlugin directory.
  3. Double-click on the install.exe.
  4. Review and accept the License Agreement.
  5. Verify the directory path to the location of:
    • iPlanet Web Server
    • Forte for Java
    • Available disk space
  6. Select Install to install the Developer Pack iPlanet Web Server Integration Tool; or Cancel to quit the installation process.
  7. Select OK to complete the installation process.

NOTE:The first time you launch Forte for Java after installing the iPlanet Developer Pack Web Server Integration Tool, the following message may appear: "Error Opening the Project: Errors while opening the Default project - com.iplanet.iws.integ.forte.globalsettings.IwsGlobalOptionsSettings." This message appears if you have a previous version of the Developer Pack Web Server Integration Tool. Simply select OK and proceed with your development.

To install the iPlanet Web Server Integration Tool on a Solaris system:

  1. Insert the iPlanet Developer Pack CD in the CD-ROM drive.
  2. Open a terminal window and locate the CD-ROM drive.
  3. Navigate to the Forte_for_Java/Solaris/iWSPlugin/iplanet_wsee.zip file.
  4. Copy the iplanet_wsee.zip file to a directory where you have write privileges.
  5. Unzip the file by typing: unzip iplanet_wsee.zip.
  6. Type the following command to launch the installer: ./install
  7. Review the License Agreement when prompted.
  8. When prompted, identify the path to the iPlanet Web Server installation directory.
  9. When prompted, identify the path to the Forte for Java installation directory.
The installation displays an "installation complete" message.
