Foreword

This deployment guide is a culmination of elaborate tests conducted in our test labs to measure the performance of the iPlanet Market Maker software in different scenarios. Performance tests were conducted on individual modules and on mixed scenarios. Mixed scenarios simulated the realistic conditions of the initial phase of deployment and steady state operation in a production environment, and the tests surrounded the goal of end-user experience with the focus on the most commonly used functions in each module. Examples of mixed scenarios are:

Mixed Scenario 1: 70% Catalog Search, 28% Auction Bid, and 2% Registration.

Registration and Auction mix : 75% Auction Bid and 25% Registration

Performance depended greatly on the size of the catalog and community. The performance tests were conducted on different sizes of catalog and community. Catalog Search and Browse, and Community - Registration are examples of test cases.

The recommendations on sizing and scalability issues made in this guide are based on quantified results of these tests.

This handbook is intended to be read and used by iPlanet Professional Services, authorized system integrators, and the representatives of the marketmaker organization who are engaged in the installation and implementation of the iPlanet Market Maker software.
