What's New in iPlanet Market Maker, Version 4.5

The following developments have occurred in this release:

Seller Catalogs Feature

Seller catalogs are similar to the buying club catalogs created by the marketmaker. Through a configuration option, sellers are now allowed to create views containing their own products. When the seller browses the master catalog selecting categories and items for the view, the master catalog is filtered showing only items available to that particular seller. During the last step of creating a view, the seller can assign buying companies to the view. In this way, sellers can offer their items, or a subset of their items, to a set of buyers without having to consult the marketmaker.

After a seller assigns a buying company to a view, the buying company administrator sees the view in his list of views. At this point, the buying company administrator can assign company roles to the view.

A buying company may be offered several catalogs from different sellers, but may choose to allow his company to buy only from certain catalogs.

Configuration

The ability for buyers and seller to create views is controlled by two separate configuration parameters in the CatalogConfiguration.properties file, as shown below:

#allow buyers to create views
24=true
#allow seller to create views
25=false

The values above will implement the standard iPlanet Market Maker configuration, where buyers can create views and sellers cannot.

Another common configuration is to allow sellers to create views, but not buyers. This prevents buyers from having access to the master catalog. (If buyers can create views, they can see all items from all sellers.)

Setting both values to false means that only the markermaker can create views.

All combinations of values are allowed.

Limitations and Known Problems

The following sections address any limitations and known problems that are associated with the iPlanet Market Maker 4.5 release:

API Issues

Working with blacklisted companies.

To get blacklisted companies, use:

TransactionBrokerManager.getFilteredCompanies(CompanyFilterType.BLACKLIST,guid) where guid=requesting company

To blacklist companies, use:

TransactionBrokerManager.setFilteredCompanies(CompanyFilterType.BLACKLIST,guid, blacklistguids)

where:

guid=requesting company

blacklistguids=list of guids of companies to blacklist

Internationalization/Localization Issues

i18n settings required for iPlanet Directory Server.

To run the iPlanet Market Maker software on the iPlanet Application Server in non-US locales, set the following variables in the iasenv.ksh file, located in the <$IAS_HOME>/ias/env directory:

LC_ALL=en_US.UTF-8
NLS_LANG=English_America.UTF8
export LC_ALL NLS_LANG

These variables are mandatory for handling character conversion across various character sets.

Settings required for viewing multi-byte with Netscape Communicator 4.x.

Users of Netscape Communicator 4.x who use a language represented in a character set which is not Latin1 (which means all users except US and Western Europe) will need to install the Bitstream Cyberbit font on Windows before using iPlanet Market Maker, and modify the font selection setting for unicode as follows:

  1. Install Bitstream Cyberbit. General information is available at:

    http://home.netscape.com/eng/intl/basics.html#encodefont

  2. Get the font from:

    http://ftp.netscape.com/pub/communicator/extras/fonts/windows/

  3. After you have installed the font, modify the font selection setting for unicode:

    Edit>Preferences>Appearance>Fonts

    For the encoding unicode, the following fonts will be selected if you installed Bitstream Cyberbit:

    • Variable Width Font: Bitstream Cyberbit

    • Fixed Width Font: Bitstream Cyberbit

    There are 3 radio buttons under that:

    1. Use my default fonts, overriding document-specified fonts

    2. Use document-specified fonts, but disable dynamic fonts

    3. Use document-specified fonts, including Dynamic fonts

    By default, option 3 is selected.

  4. Select option 1.

    This enables you to display iPlanet Market Maker pages containing Japanese characters on a Japanese version of Netscape Communicator.

UTF-8 settings required for iPlanet Directory Server 5.x

By default 7-bit check is ON in case of IDS5.X

There are two ways to set 7-bit check value as OFF, as follows:

  1. Change value from directory server console.

    1. Go to Directory Server Console.

    2. Click on the newly created instance.

    3. Click on Configuration.

    4. Click on Plug-ins.

    5. Click on 7-bit check.

    6. Click on Advanced.

    7. Change the value for nsslapd-pluginenabled value from ON to OFF.

  2. Change the value using the ldapmodify command.

    ids50/shared/bin > ./ldapmodify -h ecom01.india.sun.com -p 5000 -c -a -D "cn=Directory Manager" -w adminadmin -f check-7-bit.ldif

    check-7-bit.ldif

    dn: cn=7-bit check,cn=plugins,cn=config
    changetype: modify
    replace:nsslapd-pluginenabled
    nsslapd-pluginenabled:off

UTF-8 settings required for iPlanet Directory Server 4.1x
  1. Log in to Netscape Console.

  2. Open the iPlanet Directory Server.

  3. Select configuration\plugins, and select -bit.

  4. Check plugin, and uncheck the Enable plugin checkbox.

  5. Save your changes.

  6. Go to your Netscape installation location. For example: <netscape\server4\slapd-xxx\config>

  7. Open the slapd.ldbmconf file.

  8. In this file, comment out the following line by inserting # at the start of the line:

    #plugin preoperation off "7-bit check" "C:/Netscape/Server4/lib/uid-plugin.dll" NS7bitAttr_Init "uid" "mail" "userpassword" "," "o=red.iplanet.com"

  9. Add the following line to the slapd.ldbmconf file:

    plugin preoperation off "7-bit check" "C:/Netscape/Server4/lib/uid-plugin.dll" NS7bitAttr_Init "uid""mail" "," "o=imm"

In the above example, UTF-8 settings were enabled for only two attributes: uid and mail. You will need to include any other attributes you want to store as UTF-8.

Operational Issues

iPlanet Market Maker 4.5 property files are in separate locations.

Location of set used for command line:

<$IMM_HOME>/resources

Location of set used by iPlanet Application Server applications:

<ias_install_dir>/ias/APPS/imm40/imm40/WEB-INF/classes

Browser Issue

Problem: JSP's do not render fully in Netscape 6.2.

On some pages a warning message appears:

"The page you are trying to view contains POSTDATA that has expired from cache. If you resend the data, any action the form carried out (such as a search or online purchase) will be repeated. To resend the data, click OK.Otherwise, click Cancel".

Workaround:

One solution is to click the OK button when the warning message appears, and the page renders properly.

Another solution is for the user to click Reload on the menu bar, and the page renders properly.

LDAP sampledata passwords

The LDAP sampledata has two workable passwords.

One is the "userid" itself, and the other is "iplanet".

For example:

immhost = "root"

mercury enterprises = "iplanet"

If one does not work, try the other.

iPlanet Market Maker configuration files

VortexConfiguration.properties and some other files are located in two different locations:

Make sure to update both places when making any changes.

Known Problems

The following describes the product bugs that may affect your experience installing or using iPlanet Market Maker 4.5. Bugs are listed in numeric order.

4648661 Auctions: Search by String does not return an auction.

4651229 As a root user, only full uninstall is available.

4666610 Some sample image files do not display.

4648661 Auctions: Search by String does not return an auction.

The search by string in the Auctions module does not return any auction details (English and Japanese versions).

This problem occurs if the property CFG_USE_INTERMEDIA in the CatalogConfiguration.properties file is not set to true during the loading of the catalog data.

Solution: After altering the indexes, the Catalog search works correctly and the problem is solved. The format for altering the indexes is as follows:

#CFG_USE_INTERMEDIA

# Set to true when intermedia is to be used for searching, false otherwise

14=true

4651229 As a root user, only full uninstall is available.

As a root user, it is only possible to do a full uninstall. However, both full and partial uninstall are available to an iMM user.

4666610 Some sample image files do not display.

Some sample image files do not display because an incorrect path is selected.

Solution: Copy the sample image files from the Web Server content directory to the $iAS_ROOT/ias/APPS directory.

4666662 An incorrect file name displays if an attachment has a Korean file name.

There is a limitation to saving an attachment with a Korean file name.

Solution: Use ASCII characters as the file name.

4675583 iMM 4.5 English version cannot be installed on ko locales.

When installing the iPlanet Market Maker 4.5 English version under the ko locale, it fails.

Solution: Install the iPlanet Market Maker 4.5 English version under the `C' locale. Switch back the OS to the ko locale. Install the ko package and run the iPlanet Market Maker 4.5 software on the ko locale.
