Setting up MAPI service providers on a Windows client is a four-phase process:

Installing the Data Access Objects (DAO) (Microsoft via Boldon James, Ltd.) This is a simple InstallShield procedure. |

Installing the Data Access Pack (ODBC) (Microsoft via Boldon James, Ltd.) This is a simple InstallShield procedure. |

Installing and configuring the IMAP and SMTP service providers Installation is via InstallShield (or netinstall) and a-client side GUI configuration tool. This does not require use of the SIMS 3.5 Remote Administration Console, although you can use it to access required server side parameters. |

Installing and configuring the LDAP service provider (Boldon James, Ltd.) Installation is via InstallShield (or netinstall). Configuration is via a GUI tool. Configuration is greatly simplified by first establishing one or more site-wide configuration files before installing on clients. Then, to configure clients, you simply download a centrally-stored configuration file. You do not need the SIMS 3.5 Remote Administration Console, but you can use it to access required server side parameters as needed. |
Note - Although not required, it is highly recommended that administrators create site-wide configuration files prior to setting up the LDAP (the second of the two MAPI components) service provider on a Windows client. This chapter shows you how. Otherwise, see the on-line help that comes with the LDAP service provider and display or print out the third-party LDAP documentation that resides in the MAPI directory.
