CHAPTER 5

Installing the Remote Administration Console

You can administer SIMS services from either Microsoft Windows® 95,
Windows NT® 4.0, or Solaris systems. You do so using the remote Administration Console. The SIMS 3.5 client CD contains an installable image of the remote Administration Console for Microsoft Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0 machines. This chapter shows you how to install it.

Note - Do not run the remote Administration Console on a dual boot machine running both Microsoft Windows® 95 and NT®. The remote Administration Console will experience a NullPointerException error, which will cause problems loading the main page. To install on Microsoft Windows 95 or NT 4.0
  1. Insert the SIMS 3.5 client CD into the CD-ROM drive.
  2. Click Readme to view the readme.txt file on the client CD.
A Notepad window displays the readme.txt file. Check for remote Administration Console updates in this file.
  3. Click the Admin Console button in the AutoPlay window.

This launches InstallShield.

Note - If the AutoPlay screen does not appear after a few seconds, then continue with the following steps:
  a. Click the Start button.
  b. Click the Run button.
  c. Run the setup script:

<cdrom_drive_letter>:console/win32/setup.exe

Running the setup script launches InstallShield, the installation program.
  4. Follow the InstallShield steps to install the Administration Console.
