Determining Transport Protocol

To ensure that SMCS connections work properly, you need to know if your company is using either the SPX or a file sharing transport for LAN-based e-mail systems.

SPX provides message transport over Ethernet or Token Ring links between LAN clients and the SMCS server. SPX choices include one of the following:

Sun Solaris SPX stack (Connect/NW 2.0 Protocol Services) and higher
Syntax TotalNET Advanced Server 5.0 and higher
Third Party SPX stack
File sharing provides message transport by transparently mapping logical drives from LAN environments to physical disk drives located on the SMCS server. File sharing choices include one of the following:

Sun's NWServer (Connect/NW 2.0 Protocol Services)
TotalNet 5.0
NetWare InternetWare
Third party NFS software
