Directory Replication

If your directory information tree (DIT) is partitioned and you decide to implement the subtrees on different mail servers, you should consider using the replication feature. Replication enables a replica of all or part of the DIT that resides on one mail server (directory server) to be delivered to one or more directory servers.

Benefits of using the replication feature include the following:

The directory information is more accessible since it is replicated on multiple rather than a single directory server.
The directory information is cached on a local directory server, saving the effort of accessing the information from a remote directory server and thereby enhancing performance.
Requests generated by mail clients will be processed faster by multiple directory servers rather than by one mail server.
For complete information on replication, including how to configure the replication feature, see the Sun Internet Mail Server 3.5 Administrator's Guide.
