Converting Other Document Types

In addition to converting Word 2007 documents to Documaker documents, you can also convert:

To convert these types of documents, complete the following task.

To convert a non-Word 2007 document to a Documaker document

  1. In Word, open the document you want to convert to a Documaker document.
  1. For any document type, including documents created in previous versions of Word or RTF files:
  2. Select the Microsoft Office button Microsoft Office button.
  3. Choose Save As > Word Document.
  4. Click Save to save the document as a Word 2007 .docx file.
Warning Ensure that the Maintain compatibility with Word 97-2003 checkbox is not selected. If this checkbox is selected, all Documaker elements will be deleted.

Alternatively, for documents created in previous versions of Word, you can use the Convert function instead of using Save As:

  1. Select the Microsoft Office button Microsoft Office button, then choose Convert.
  2. A message appears indicating that the document will be converted to the newest file format.
  3. Click OK.
  4. Select the Microsoft Office button Microsoft Office button, then choose Save.
  5. Click Save to save the document as a Word 2007 .docx file.

The document is now in Word 2007 format. Complete the remaining steps to convert it to a Documaker document.

  1. From the Documaker tab, select Create Documaker Document > Convert.
  2. Complete the Document Properties dialog.
  3. Click OK when done.

The Documaker document is saved.

Note   You cannot convert a Documaker document back to a non-Documaker document. Even if all of its content is removed, the document will still retain various Documaker properties and variables. However, these additional items should not affect another user's ability to use the document as a regular Word document.
