May 2015

This document contains important information to help you get started downloading, installing, and configuring Oracle Fusion Middleware 11g Release 1 (11.1.1.9.0).

For information about downloading other Oracle Fusion Middleware products, see Oracle Fusion Middleware Download, Installation, and Configuration Readme Files.

This document contains the following sections:

Notes:

Consider the following before you begin using this document:
  • The individual Oracle Fusion Middleware 11g Release 1 (11.1.1.9.0) products are often announced and released on the Oracle download sites on separate schedules. This document provides an overview of the 11g Release 1 (11.1.1.9.0) downloads. It is not a comprehensive list.

  • If you are running your Oracle Fusion Middleware software on a third-party application server, such as IBM WebSphere Application Server, then refer to the certification information on OTN to determine the required version of the third-party software required for this Oracle Fusion Middleware release.

You can then refer to the third-party application server documentation for instructions on how to upgrade or patch your third-party software.

1 Task 1: Review and Make Note of Your Operating System Capabilities (32-bit or 64-bit)

Before you download any Oracle Fusion Middleware software, review your existing environment and determine your specific operating system versions, including whether you are using 32-bit or 64-bit systems.

Many Oracle products provide specific 32-bit and 64-bit downloads. As a result, it is important to make note of your specific operating system requirements before starting any downloads.

2 Task 2: Review the Certification, System Requirements, and Interoperability Information

Review the following documents to be sure that the Oracle Fusion Middleware software you want to download is supported on your existing software and hardware.

Notes:

When checking the certification, system requirements, and interoperability information, be sure to check specifically for any 32-bit or 64-bit system requirements. It is important for you to download software specifically designed for the 32-bit or 64-bit environment, explicitly.

3 Task 3: Understand the Types of Oracle Fusion Middleware Installers

Oracle Fusion Middleware 11g Release 1 (11.1.1.9.0) provides different types of installers, depending on the product you are downloading. Table 1 summarizes the installers available for this release.

Table 1 Summary of the Oracle Fusion Middleware Installers Used to Apply the Latest Patch Set

Products Type and Behavior of the Installer

Web Tier, WebCenter Portal, WebCenter Content, and Oracle Data Integrator

These installers are full installers that can also function as update installers. You can use them to update an existing 11g Release 1 Oracle home, or you can use them to install a new, complete Oracle home.

Oracle Identity Management, Oracle SOA Suite, Oracle Service Bus

These installers are full installers that can also function as update installers. They can be used to update an existing 11g Release 1 Oracle home, or they can be used to install a new, complete Oracle home.

These installers also offer a configuration option.

Note: When using these installers to apply a patch set, you must select the option to install the software only. Do not select the option to configure the software. The domain you are patching is already configured and does not require any reconfiguration.

4 Task 4: Select an Oracle Fusion Middleware Software Download Site

Oracle provides multiple locations for downloading Oracle Fusion Middleware and the software it requires.

5.1 Downloading the Required Database Software

Most of the Oracle Fusion Middleware products require a database that can store the required schemas. The schemas as a whole are referred to as the Oracle Fusion Middleware Metadata Repository.

The following Oracle database releases are supported for Oracle Fusion Middleware 11g (11.1.1). You can use any of the following minimum Oracle database releases:

  • Oracle Oracle Database 10g (10.2.0.4)

Download both the base Oracle Database 10g (10.2.0.1) and the Oracle Database 10g Release 2 (10.2.0.4) patch set. Refer to the database documentation for more information.

  • Oracle Database 11g (11.1.0.7)

Download both the base Oracle Database 11g Release 1 (11.1.0.1) and the Oracle Database 11g Release 1 (11.1.0.7) patch set. Refer to the database documentation for more information.

  • Oracle Database 11g (11.2.0.1)

For a complete list of the databases that are certified for use with Oracle Fusion Middleware and a list of required patches that must be applied to each supported database version, refer to Oracle Fusion Middleware Supported Configurations on the Oracle Technology Network (OTN). Some Oracle Fusion Middleware products support third-party database software, as well as Oracle database software.

Note that some of the supported databases require additional patches to be applied before you can use them with Oracle Fusion Middleware. For more information, see System Requirements and Specifications, which is available on OTN.
