In time series charts, the currently selected chart displays two sets of controls by default that you can use to pan and zoom in and out of the metrics data displayed in the chart:

• Chart overview — the horizontal bar appearing immediately below the chart that indicates the proportion of metrics data currently visible in the chart in relation to the whole set of data that has been generated since the chart has been active. The portion of data currently visible in the chart is highlighted in the overview in a darker shade of grey. This highlighted region functions as a scroll bar, which you can click and drag to pan through all the metrics data in the chart.
• Pan and zoom buttons — a set of buttons that you can choose to pan the chart to the left or right, allowing you to see earlier or later data values, or to zoom in or out of the time interval that is displayed in the chart.

Using the Preferences dialog box, you can configure whether these controls are displayed:

• In all time series charts in a view
• In only the currently selected time series chart
• Never
