This figure shows the configuration MBean hierarchy. The root directory is the Domain MBean. The next directory level is the MBean type. The MBean instance level is under the MBean type. The MBean attributes and operations level is under the instance level.

This example shows three MBean types under the DomainMBean root. The LogMBean type has one instance (medrec) which has one attribute (FileName). The Security MBean type has no instances or attributes. The Server MBean type has a MedRec Server instance, which has a StartupMode attribute. The Server MBean type also has a ManagedServer1 instance, which has an AutoRestart attribute.
