Function Security in Oracle Assets

Use function security to control user access to Oracle Assets functions. By default, access to Oracle Assets functionality is NOT restricted; you must ask your system administrator to customize your responsibilities to restrict access. Your system administrator customizes each responsibility at your site by including or excluding registered functions and menus of functions for a responsibility in the Responsibilities form.

For example, your system administrator creates a Fixed Assets Clerk responsibility that allows asset additions in the QuickAdditions form, but does not allow retirements. When you sign on, select the Fixed Assets Clerk responsibility, and open the Asset Workbench, the QuickAdditions button appears, but the Retirements button is hidden.

The following examples are common results that enforcing function security may produce:

Use function security to control any of the Oracle Assets functions included in the table below:

User Function Name Restriction(s)
Assets:Open Change descriptive details in the Asset Details window.
Assets:New Add assets using the Detail Additions process in the Asset Details, Books, and Assignments windows.
NOTE: You also can access these windows separately. So, if you allow detail additions (Assets:New) but not transfers (Assets:Assignments), you can access the Assignments window only when performing a detail addition.
Assets:QuickAdditions Add assets using the QuickAdditions process in the QuickAdditions window
Assets:Assignments Perform transfers in the Assignments window
Assets:Books Perform financial adjustments in any book in the Books window
Assets:Source Lines View and adjust source lines in the Source Lines window
Assets:Retirements Retire an asset in the Retirements window
Assets:Reinstatements Reinstate previous retirements, Undo Retirement, or Undo Reinstatement, depending on the status of the retirement transaction in the Retirements window
Assets:Subcomponents View subcomponents in the Subcomponents window
Assets:Adjust Source Lines Transfer or partially transfer lines or amounts in the Source Lines window
Assets:Transfer Source Lines Transfer source lines between assets (Transfer To) in the Source Lines window
Assets:Manual Asset Numbers Enter an asset number in the Asset Number field of the Detail and QuickAdditions, and Mass Additions windows. This function enforces automatic asset numbering
Assets:Change Number Update asset number in the Asset Number field of the Asset Detail window
Assets:Change Description Update asset description in the Description field of the Asset Detail window
Assets:Reclassifications Perform reclassifications (change the category) in the Category field of the Asset Details window
Assets:Unit Adjustments Adjust units in the Units field of the Asset Details window
Assets:Unplanned Depreciation Enter unplanned depreciation for an asset in the Unplanned Depreciation window
Mass Additions:Delete All Change the status of all mass additions lines to DELETE.
Mass Additions:Hold All Change the status of all mass additions lines to ON HOLD.
Mass Additions:Post Change the status of all mass additions lines to POST.
Mass Additions:Split Split and unsplit mass additions in the Mass Additions window
Mass Additions:Add to Asset Add mass additions to existing assets or remove mass additions from an asset in the Mass Additions window
Mass Additions:Merge Merge or unmerge mass additions in the Mass Additions window
Mass Additions:Open Prepare mass additions in the Prepare Mass Additions window
Tax Workbench:Assign ITC Assign ITC to an asset in the Investment Tax Credits window
Tax Workbench:Adjust Reserve Adjust tax book accumulated depreciation in the Reserve Adjustments window
Tax Workbench:Add to Tax Book Add an asset to a tax book
