5 Activating Optional Features

Hardware activation files enable optional library features, such as capacity upgrades and redundant electronics. You must install one hardware activation file for each feature.

Downloading a New Hardware Activation File

Only use this procedure for libraries with firmware FRS_3.0 and above. For libraries with lower firmware levels, see "Installing Legacy Hardware Activation Files".

  1. Go to the Oracle Software Delivery Cloud at:

    http://edelivery.oracle.com/

  2. Click Sign In /Register.

  3. Read the terms and restrictions. Indicate your acceptance, and then click Continue.

  4. On the Media Pack Search screen, select Oracle StorageTek Products and Generic Platform. Click Go.

  5. Select the SL3000 hardware activation file. Click Continue.

  6. Click Download.

  7. Save the file.

  8. Extract the file to a location accessible to your SLC session.

Installing a New Hardware Activation File

  1. In SLC, select Tools > Hardware Activation.

  2. Click the Install Hardware Activation Keys tab.

  3. Browse to the hardware activation file.

  4. Review the hardware activation file details. Click Install.

  5. Click Yes, and then OK.

  6. Verify that the activation file was installed successfully (see "Displaying Current Hardware Activation Files").

You may need to perform additional tasks to use the new feature (see "Configuring Capacity" and "Partitioning the Library").

Displaying Current Hardware Activation Files

Note:

To display a feature audit log showing all hardware activation activity, use the Reports utility (see "Viewing Library and Device Reports with the Reports Utility").
  1. In SLC, select Tools > Hardware Activation.

  2. Click the Current Hardware Activation Keys tab.

Deleting a Hardware Activation File

Deleting a hardware activation file is rarely necessary and can impact library operations. Having extra hardware activation files installed on a library does not cause problems (for example, capacity activation files that exceed the physical capacity of the library).

  1. In SLC, click Tools > Hardware Activation.

  2. Click the Delete Hardware Activation Files tab.

  3. Select the activation file to delete.

  4. Verify the correct activation file is selected, and then click Delete.

  5. Click Yes.

Depending on the feature of the hardware activation file, you may need to perform additional tasks after deleting the file (see "Deleting a Partition").

Installing Legacy Hardware Activation Files

For SL3000 libraries with firmware below FRS_3.0, contact Oracle support. All purchased features are enabled with a single hardware activation file installed by an Oracle support representative.

If you upgrade to firmware version FRS_3.0 and above, use the process described in "Installing a New Hardware Activation File".
