Welcome to the documentation notes for Content Server 6.3 Patch 10. These notes describe the product guides and major changes to their content since the last release. Check the FatWire e-docs web site for latest updates to these notes and the product guides. For additional information, contact FatWire technical support.

Documentation History 

June 15, 2011: Content Server 6.3 Patch 10 release. FCK Editor was added to this release and documented in the following guides: User’s Guide, Developer’s Guide (configuring FCKEditor), and Property Files Reference (setting the xcelerate.fckeditor.basepath property).

 CS 6.3 Documentation Set 

The CS 6.3 document set provides guides for different kinds of users:

·         Installation Engineers

·         Architects and Developers

·         System Administrators

·         Content Providers

For information regarding updates to product guides (search on *).

Installation Engineers

Note that all installation guides have been updated to reflect the CS administrator’s new default login name fwadmin (previously admin).

Title

Description

Configuration Guide: Third-Party Software

New in CS 6.3. Explains how to install and configure selected third-party software that supports Content Server. Provides instructions on:

  • Creating and configuring supported databases
  • Installing web servers
  • Integrating with LDAP servers.

Note that in previous releases, information in this guide was repeated across installation guides. The Configuration Guide consolidates the information.

Note, also, that the Configuration Guide applies to and covers the Spark product.

Guidelines for Upgrading to
Content Server 6.3

Contains procedures for upgrading from Content Server versions 5.x and 6.x.

*Installing Content Server with Tomcat Application Server

New in CS 6.3. Explains how to install the Content Server web application when your site uses Tomcat Application Server. Information about creating and configuring databases is available in our Configuration Guide.

*Updated: May 24, 2006. Since initial release, we made the following change:
- Added support for vertical clustering.

Installing Content Server with WebSphere

Explains how to install the Content Server web and portal applications when your site uses WebSphere. (Information about creating and configuring supported databases, installing selected web servers, and integrating with LDAP is available in our Configuration Guide.)

Revisions:
Since the previous release, major changes have been made to this guide:

  • This guide was rewritten to provide explicit installation instructions rather than guidelines.
  • Information about creating and configuring supported databases was moved to our Configuration Guide.

*Installing Content Server with BEA WebLogic Server

Explains how to install the Content Server web and portal applications when your site uses BEA WebLogic Server.

*Updated: April 13, 2006. Since initial release, we made the following change:
- Removed references to JMS server and configuration instructions regarding JMS server.

Installing Content Server with Sun Java Enterprise System

Explains how to install the Content Server web and portal applications when your site uses Sun Java Enterprise System.

Revisions:
Since the previous release of Content Server (running with Sun ONE), major changes have been made to this guide:

  • Organization. 

-   This guide has been divided into parts, each part corresponding to a major component of the Content Server installation (i.e., database, application server, web server, and Content Server).

-   Information about creating and configuring supported databases, installing selected web servers, and integrating with LDAP was moved to our Configuration Guide.

  • Methodology. Much of the guide is now command-based.

Installing Content Server withJBoss Application Server

Explains how to install the Content Server web application when your site uses JBoss.

Revisions:
Since the previous release, major changes have been made to this guide:

  • This guide was rewritten to provide explicit installation instructions rather than guidelines.
  • Information about creating and configuring supported databases was moved to our Configuration Guide.

Installing Satellite Server

Explains how to install and configure Satellite Server, both co-resident and remote.

Revisions:
Since the previous release, this guide was revised to reflect the current installation methods (installer-based) and support for portal installations.

Internationalization Settings Guide

Provides instructions for configuring Content Server installations to support multi-language operations; for example, how to specify the character set of the database, set properties that determine character encoding, and configure browsers to support content in different languages. (Note that the Internationalization Settings Guide applies to and covers the Spark application, as well.)

Property Files Reference

Contains information about property files and the properties that are used to specify operating parameters for Content Server and its applications. This guide is also essential to developers and administrators of Content Server systems.

Revisions:
Since the previous release, the following changes have been made to the Property Files Reference:

·         Information has been added regarding newly added support for the Apache Commons HTTPClient Library, its integration with Content Server, and its properties. 

·         A new property, ft.suppressPasswordNames, was added to the futuretense.ini section.

Architects and Developers

Title

Description

*Developer's Guide

Explains how to create asset types, design pages, set up security, establish caching and web services, and much more.

Revisions:
Since the previous release, the following changes have been made to the guide: Classpaths were updated for the utilities XMLPost (page 378), BulkLoader (page 431), and BulkApprover (page 444).

*Updated: January 18, 2006. Since initial release, we made the following change:
- Added a chapter explaining the newly developed InSite Templating feature and its usage.

Delivery Portlet Developer’s Guide

Explains the concepts of creating delivery portlets for Content Server, using the Spark reference implementation as a sample site. (Note that the Delivery Portlet Developer’s Guide applies to and covers the Spark application, as well.)

Revisions:
Since the previous release, this guide has been revised to reflect the shift from unmanaged JSPs to CS-managed JSPs.

Tag Reference

Contains reference pages for Content Server public XML and JSP tags, the CS Web Services, and JAVA API.

Revisions:
Since the previous release, this reference has been updated with new tags for FirstSite II, tags for the new InSite Templating feature, and with bug fixes to various existing tags.

Property Files Reference

Listed under "Installation Engineers".

System Administrators

Title

Description

Administrator’s Guide

Explains how to manage Content Server. Provides information about user and system management operations, workflow planning and configuration, revision tracking, publishing, and database maintenance.

Revisions:
Since the previous release, the following changes have been made:

  • Appendix D (“Integrating with LDAP”) was moved to our Configuration Guide as a chapter, updated to reflect support for portal installations and bundled LDAP. Instructions for integrating with external LDAP servers were updated.
  • The appendix “Managing Users, Sites and Roles in LDAP-Integrated Systems” has been supplemented with an overview that discusses LDAP schema, LDAP users (as defined by CS properties), and LDAP connectivity options for role and site management.
  • The administrator’s login name has been updated to fwadmin (previously, admin).

User’s Guide

For content providers using the Content Server web application. Content providers can be authors, marketers, publicists, editors, copyeditors, artists, photographers, publishers, and anyone else who contributes content for their web sites. This guide provides information about using Content Server's standard (non-portal) interface.

Portal Application User’s Guide

For content providers using the Content Server portal application. Content providers can be authors, marketers, publicists, editors, copyeditors, artists, photographers, publishers, and anyone else who contributes website content. (Note that the Portal Applications User's Guide also covers the Spark application.)

CS-Desktop Help

Provides online help for CS-Desktop.

InSite Editor Help

Provides online help for the InSite Editor.

CS-DocLink Help

Provides online help for CS-DocLink.
