5 Installing From Scratch on Windows

This chapter provides instructions for installing Identity Synchronization for Windows 6.0 Service Pack 1 in a greenfield environment, an environment where no instance of Identity Synchronization for Windows already exists. This chapter contains the following sections:

5.1 Creating Required Data Stores in Directory Server

The LDAP directory used to store the Identity Synchronization for Windows configuration and synchronization data must be created and configured manually before you run the Identity Synchronization for Windows installer.

When creating tthis type of Directory Server instance, observe the following recommendations:

For detailed steps, see "Creating Directory Sources" in "Chapter 4, Configuring Core Resources" of the Oracle Identity Synchronization for Windows 6.0 Installation and Configuration Guide.

5.2 Obtaining the Identity Synchronization for Windows Software

See Section 1.4, "Obtaining the Software as Part of Directory Server Enterprise Edition."

5.3 Preparing for Identity Synchronization for Windows Installation

  1. Review the following sections of this document:

  2. After you unzip the distribution file, the directory should contain the following components:

    • HotFix-6.0SP1_COMBO_5_20110722 directory

    • The Identity Synchronization for Windows 6.0 Service Pack 1 patch

    • JDK 5.0_u29

    • Message Queue 4.3

  3. Install JDK 5.0_u29.

    Install the packages available under the appropriate jdk directory.

    Launch the .exe file.

  4. Install Message Queue 4.3.

    See Section 2.2, "Installing or Upgrading Sun Java System Message Queue." for detailed information.

  5. Unpack the Identity Synchronization for Windows 6.0 Service Pack 1 binaries.

    Change to the patch-id directory that corresponds to your platform and unzip the Identity Synchronization for Windows zip file.

    For example:

    C:\> cd 144592-01
    C:\> unzip.exe isw.6.0.sp1.windows.zip
    

5.4 Installing the Software

Before You Begin. Manually stop the Application Server and Identity Syncrhonication for Windows services and consoles. See Section 1.6.2, "Starting and Stopping Synchronization" and Section 1.6.3, "Starting and Stopping Services."

  1. Install the Identity Synchronization for Windows 6.0 Service Pack 1 Core.

    For more information, see Chapter 3, Installing Core, in Oracle Identity Synchronization for Windows 6.0 Installation and Configuration Guide.

  2. Install the HotFix-6.0SP1_COMBO_5_20110722 patch included within the 11.1.1.7.0 ODSEE release. Follow the instructions contained in the README file within the hotfix path. In summary:

    1. Manually stop the Administration Server service.

    2. Manually stop the Identity Synchronization for Windows service.

    3. Close the Application Server and Identity Synchronization for Windows consoles.

      Be sure to wait until all processes are stopped. This could take a full minute or more.

    4. Launch the Install command without specifying any parameters.

  3. Configure the Identity Synchronization for Windows 6.0 Service Pack 1 Core.

    For more information, see Chapter 4, Configuring Core Resources, in Oracle Identity Synchronization for Windows 6.0 Installation and Configuration Guide.

  4. Start the Identity Synchronization for Windows services.

    See Section 1.6.3, "Starting and Stopping Services."

  5. Start synchronization.

    See Section 1.6.2, "Starting and Stopping Synchronization."

5.5 Checking the Software Version

To confirm that the Identity Synchronization for Windows 6.0 Service Pack 1 installation has been successful, run the following command:

C:\Program Files\Sun\MPS\isw-win2k3-isw\bin\idsync -V

The output should be the same as the following:
