It is not necessary to perform the alternative action in the actual application. For example, you could have pressed Enter in a blank document in WordPad or even in Excel. You are only capturing the action, not the screenshot.
However, it is always safer to perform the action in the actual procedure step to make sure that the action produces the desired results.
