Record Sound in the Topic using the Sound Editor


After completing this topic, you will be able to record sound in the Topic Editor.


Steps:

  1. We have opened the Changing Fonts topic. View the Sound Editor toolpane in the Topic Editor.

     

    Click the Sound Editor tab.

  2. The waveform shows no recorded sound for the selected frame.

     

    Because the Sound Editor and Frame Structure toolpanes share the same dock, you cannot see which is the current frame.

  3. Move the toolpanes so that you can view the Frame Structure and the Sound Editor at the same time. Dock the Sound Editor to the right of the Frame Structure.

     

    Press the left mouse button on the Sound Editor tab and drag it off the dock.

  4. Continue dragging.

  5. Release the mouse button.

  6. Start recording the sound for the topic.

     

    Click the Record sound button.

  7. The Sound Recorder opens. Start the process by recording the sound for the Introduction frame.

  8. After recording the introduction, you can pause the recording or move to the next frame. Pause the recording.

     

    Click the Pause button.

  9. While the recording is paused. you can adjust playback and recording levels using the Sound Tuning Wizard button in the Sound Recorder.

     

    Note: See Adjust Sound Controls in the Edit Sound section for information about using the Sound Tuning Wizard.

  10. While the recording is paused, advance to the next frame.

     

    Click the Go to next frame button.

  11. Notice that the Frame Structure shows that you are currently viewing the Explanation frame.

  12. Resume the recording and record the audio for the Explanation frame.

     

    Click the Resume button.

  13. After recording the sound for a frame, you can either pause the recording and then advance the frame or simply advance to the next frame and continue recording.

     

    Advance to the next frame without pausing.

     

    Click the Go to next frame button.

  14. The frame structure shows that you have selected the first F frame.

     

    Since the recorder is running, you would now record the audio for this frame.

  15. After recording the audio for the frame, advance to the next frame.

     

    Click the Go to next frame button.

  16. You have advanced to the second F frame and recorded the audio. Advance to the next frame.

     

    Click the Go to next frame button.

  17. You have recorded the audio for the third F frame. Advance to the next frame.

     

    Click the Go to next frame button.

  18. You have recorded the audio for the fourth F frame. Advance to the next frame.

     

    Click the Go to next frame button.

  19. You have recorded the audio for the last F frame. Advance to the End frame.

     

    Click the Go to next frame button.

  20. Record the audio for the End frame and save the recording.

     

    Click the OK button.

  21. The recorded sound appears in the waveform.

  22. We have stacked the Sound Editor and Frame Structure toolpanes to view more of the panes.

     

    The solid yellow vertical line is the marker showing the boundary between frames; in this case, between the Introduction and Explanation frames.

  23. When you select a frame other than the Introduction or End frame, you can view a maximum of three frames in the waveform.

     

    When you zoom to show three frames, the waveform shows the audio for the selected frame in the middle, and the previous and next frames on either side.
