Using a Runtime Release of the Drill and Slice Component

Use the Drill and Slice component to create a hierarchy of filters that enable easy navigation through a data set in an Interactive Reporting Studio document.

*  To use the Drill and Slice component:

  1. In Interactive Reporting Studio , open a dashboard that is configured with the Drill and Slice component.

  2. From Quick Drill, select an item.

If the dashboard developer did not apply the setting to select the first item by default, no values are available in Quick Drill. A hierarchy item must be clicked to display the values to drill into.

  3. Click Drill Down button to drill down.

The items are displayed in Quick Drill.

  4. Optional: To drill up one level, click Drill Up button, and to move to the top level from the lowest level of the hierarchy, click Drill Down button.

  5. Double-click an item in Quick Drill to apply the item as a filter before moving to the next level in the hierarchy.

A chart located behind a pivot that is being drilled, is simultaneously being sliced.

Items selected in Quick Drill are applied as filters before the next column in the hierarchy is added to the pivot.

To enable long entry names to be seen in full, select the item in Quick Drill. The full name is displayed as a text label above Quick Drill. For more information on expanding list descriptions, see “Using the List Expansion Properties Frame” in the Hyperion Interactive Reporting – Object Model and Dashboard Development Services Developer's Guide, Volume 5: Dashboard Studio.

The Drill and Slice component works with the Checkpoint control to store or restore the drill path on a dashboard. See “Using Checkpoint Control” in the Hyperion Interactive Reporting – Object Model and Dashboard Development Services Developer's Guide, Volume 5: Dashboard Studio.
