Configuring Dashboards for the Metadata Component

This taskflow is for dashboard developers who want to add the Metadata component to dashboards.

  1. Optional: Create an Interactive Reporting database connection with references to metadata (if a connection does not exist). A metadata database connection can be created for each available data source later.

  2. Customize the Metadata component to read the correct metadata tables. If multiple data sources are present, multiple Metadata components can be created, each pointing to different data sources.

  3. Create metadata templates.

    1. Add the Metadata component to a Dashboard Studio template, so the component is available for building dashboards. However, the component can be added later to other templates.

    2. Add and configure Metadata button (Metadata) on frames, to access metadata (see Adding and Configuring Buttons to Dashboards or Templates), or extend the Help feature, so frames without Metadata button can use metadata.

  4. Save the template.

  5. Design dashboards with the metadata-enhanced template by creating one of these options:

    • A business query that uses the metadata database connection

    • Charts and pivots that use the business query

    • Dashboard frames (using metadata-enhanced frames) that contain charts and pivots

  6. Save the dashboard.
