This section discusses the settings in the General tab of the Internet Options window.
When you open a web page, a copy of it is stored in the Temporary Internet Files folder on your hard drive. This increases the speed at which previously viewed pages are displayed.
In the procedures below, the first setting enables Internet Explorer to always check a website for the latest version of previously visited pages that may still remain in the Temporary Files folder. This ensures that the latest content is viewed if a previously stored page has been updated.
The second setting describes how to specify how much disk space to allocate for the Temporary Internet Files folder. Generally, the more disk space you allot to the folder, the more pages can be stored on your hard disk. This can result in better performance when using Primavera Unifier.
Note: The recommended minimum setting is 1000 MB (1 GB).
To check for newer versions of stored pages
1 In the General tab of the Internet Options window, Browser History section, click the Settings button.
2 In the Temporary Internet Files and History Settings window, choose “Every time I visit the webpage” and click OK.
To specify size of temporary internet files folder
In the Settings window, set the disk space setting to at least 1000 MB (recommended) or higher.
If the Temporary Internet File folder is not emptied regularly of old files, over time, this can slow or interfere with the operation of the browser. Deleting cookies and your cache of temporary files regularly is highly recommended.
Note: If you encounter problems, deleting these temporary files is the first thing you should try.
To delete the temporary internet files cache
· IE 7: In the General tab of the Internet Options window, click the Delete button under Browsing History. The Delete Browsing History window opens. Click the Delete files button, then click Yes to confirm. Close the Browsing History window.
· IE 8, 9: In the General tab of the Internet Options window, click the Delete button under Browsing History. The Delete Browsing History window opens. Select Temporary Internet files and click Delete.
This setting helps ensure the Unifier pop-up windows display correctly in IE tabs.
To ensure correct pop-up window display
1 In the General tab of the Internet Options window, Tabs section, click the Settings button. The Tabbed Browsing Settings window opens.
2 Choose “Let Internet Explorer decide how pop-ups should open” and click OK.
Security Level and other security settings are configured in the Security Settings window.
Note: These settings can be done in the "Internet" or "Trusted Sites" zones. If you make these settings in the Internet zone, then they will apply to all web pages that you visit. If you make them in the Trusted Sites zone, the settings will apply only to those sites that you specify as a trusted site (ask your company administrator for these sites). Vista users may prefer to use Trusted Sites zone and disable "Protected Mode," which can interfere with some Primavera Unifier functions. If you are using Trusted Sites, you may want to consider adding other sites that you might access through Primavera Unifier, such as a webcam address accessed through a dashboard.
To set Security Settings for all web pages you visit
1 In the Internet Options window, click the Security tab.
2 Click Internet as the “zone” at the top of the tab.
3 Click the Custom Level button. The Security Settings window opens.
To set Security Settings for Unifier as a Trusted Site
1 In the Internet Options window, click the Security tab.
2 Click Trusted Sites as the “zone” at the top of the tab.
3 Add for example,"*.skire.com" as a Trusted Site:
· Click the Sites button. The Trusted Sites window opens.
· Be sure the "Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone" checkbox is NOT selected.
· Enter, for example,"*.skire.com" in the "Add this website to the zone" field, then click the Add button.
· Click the Close button to close the Trusted sites window.
Note: If you are running Vista or Windows 7, it is recommended that you deselect the "Enable Protected Mode" checkbox in the Security tab. Protected Mode can interfere with some Unifier functions. (This will require you to close and restart your IE browser for the setting to take affect).
4 In the Security tab, click the Custom Level button. The Security Settings window opens.
To set security level
In the Security Settings window (Internet Zone or Trusted Sites Zone), click the Reset to: dropdown menu and select Medium.
The following setting is needed for successful file downloads from Primavera Unifier.
To enable file downloads
In the Security Settings window, scroll down to “Automatic prompting for file downloads” and "File download." Choose Enable for both options.
This setting allows IE 7 to display Primavera Unifier windows without address and status bars at the top and bottom of the window. This setting is optional, but recommended.
To allow opening windows without address or status bars
In the Security Settings window, scroll down to “Allow websites to open windows without address or status bars” and choose Enable.
Primavera Unifier shells and business processes support the display of online maps if geocoding is enabled for them. These maps are generated from online data and are considered in the browser as nonsecure content. If Primavera Unifier is running on a secure connection the generation of these maps can produce a prompt each time you open the shell or form that uses the mapping feature:
"This page contains both secure and nonsecure items. Do you want to display the nonsecure items? Yes/No" (Click Yes to view maps.)
You can control whether these prompts appear.
To display secure and nonsecure content on the same page
In the Security Settings window, scroll down to “Display mixed content" and choose one of the following:
· If you choose Enable, you will no longer be prompted, and the mapping will display (recommended)
· If you choose Prompt, the system will prompt you each time you open a shell or form with mapping enabled
· If you choose Disable, you will not be able to view maps in Unifier (not recommended)
Third party pop-up blockers can cause problems in Primavera Unifier. However, the Internet Explorer pop-up blocker setting must be enabled.
To enable the pop-up blocker
In the Security Settings window, scroll down to “Use Pop-up Blocker” and choose Enable.
Some third party applications include pop-up blockers that are turned on by default. Pop-up blockers prevent browser pop-up windows (such as advertisements) from functioning as you navigate the Internet. Yahoo and AOL Instant Messenger are examples of applications that include pop-up blockers.
Blocking all pop-ups will interfere with the operation of Primavera Unifier because it employs pop-up windows for some operations such as document markups and reports, for example. You must disable these pop-up blockers while using Primavera Unifier.
The Internet Explorer pop-up blocker can be employed with the following settings. Pop-up blocker and other privacy settings are configured in the Privacy tab of the Internet Options window.
To set privacy setting to Medium
1 In the Internet Options window, click the Privacy tab.
2 Move the Privacy Setting slider to Medium.
To allow Unifier pop-ups when Windows XP pop-up blocker is enabled
1 In the Internet Options window Privacy tab, select the checkbox “Turn On Pop-up Blocker” (IE 7, 8, 9).
2 Click the Settings button. The Pop-up Blocker Settings window opens.
3 Enter *.skire.com in the “Address of Web site to allow” text box and click Add. This will allow pop-ups from any server from the skire.com domain.
4 Set the Filter Level to “Medium: Block most automatic pop-ups.”
5 Click Close to close the Pop-up Blocker Settings window.
The following procedures describe configuring security settings, and how to configure the settings for Java. Be sure you have already installed Java.

Primavera Unifier provides two methods of viewing files: Native and Unifier Viewer. Unifier Viewer is the default option. The Viewer lets you view and markup documents. The markups are saved as markups without changing the original file. Native Viewer allows you to view most file formats in the application in which you created or regularly view them. In other words, if you view a .doc file in Native, Microsoft Word will open and display the .doc file.
The File Transfer option is selected in the Options tab of the User Preferences window. This option determines how files are transferred between Primavera Unifier and your local system, such as uploading documents to the Document Manager, or attaching files from your local system to a business process, cost or funding sheet cell, schedule sheet or uMail message.
The file transfer options are: Basic (HTML), Intermediate (requires Java), Advanced (requires Java plus Unifier File Transfer Application).
To select the file viewer and file transfer options
1 Click the Preferences link in the upper right portion of the Unifier window.
2 Click the Options tab.
3 Select the Viewer option from the pull-down menu. Select exceptions to the default if applicable (see Unifier online help for details).
