Configuring The IE Browser

This section discusses how to setup Internet Explorer on your computer for use with Unifier and uDesigner. These settings are required in order for the applications to run properly.

When you have finished configuring the computer, log out of Primavera Unifier or Primavera uDesigner and close the browser completely in order for the new settings to take effect.

Verify Internet Explorer Version

Supports Internet Explorer version 7, 8 and 9.

To verify your Internet Explorer version

1        Open Internet Explorer.

2        From the browser menu bar, click Help and choose About Internet Explorer.

3        Verify your browser version.

If you do not have a supported version of Internet Explorer installed, contact your company administrator.

Note: If the menu bar is not displayed, right-click in an empty portion of the toolbar and select Menu Bar.

Internet Explorer Settings

Internet Explorer setup is performed in the Internet Options window. The following procedures describe the settings for the Internet Options window.

To access the Internet Explorer Internet Options window

1        Open the Internet Explorer browser window.

2        Click the Tools menu and select Internet Options. The Internet Options window opens.

Configure General Internet Options

This section discusses the settings in the General tab of the Internet Options window.

Temporary Internet File Settings

When you open a web page, a copy of it is stored in the Temporary Internet Files folder on your hard drive. This increases the speed at which previously viewed pages are displayed.

In the procedures below, the first setting enables Internet Explorer to always check a website for the latest version of previously visited pages that may still remain in the Temporary Files folder. This ensures that the latest content is viewed if a previously stored page has been updated.

The second setting describes how to specify how much disk space to allocate for the Temporary Internet Files folder. Generally, the more disk space you allot to the folder, the more pages can be stored on your hard disk. This can result in better performance when using Primavera Unifier and Primavera uDesigner.

Note: The recommended minimum setting is 1000 MB (1 GB).

To check for newer versions of stored pages

·        IE 7, 8 and 9: In the General tab of the Internet Options window, Browser History section, click the Settings button. In the Temporary Internet Files and History Settings window, choose “Every time I visit the webpage” and click OK.

To specify size of temporary internet files folder

In the Settings window, set the disk space setting to at least 1000 MB (recommended) or higher.

Delete the Temporary Internet Files Cache

If the Temporary Internet File folder is not emptied regularly of old files, over time, this can slow or interfere with the operation of the browser. Deleting cookies and your cache of temporary files regularly is highly recommended.

Note: If you encounter problems, deleting these temporary files is the first thing you should try.

To delete the temporary internet files cache

·       IE 7: In the General tab of the Internet Options window, click the Delete button under Browsing History. The Delete Browsing History window opens. Click the Delete files button, then click Yes to confirm. Close the Browsing History window.

·       IE 8 and 9: In the General tab of the Internet Options window, click the Delete button under Browsing History. The Delete Browsing History window opens. Select Temporary Internet files and click Delete.

Pop-up Window Display (IE 7, 8, 9)

This setting helps ensure the Unifier and uDesigner pop-up windows display correctly in IE tabs.

To ensure correct pop-up window display

1        In the General tab of the Internet Options window, Tabs section, click the Settings button. The Tabbed Browsing Settings window opens.

2        Choose “Let Internet Explorer decide how pop-ups should open” and click OK.

Configure Security Settings

Security Level and other security settings are configured in the Security Settings window.

Note: These settings can be done in the "Internet" or "Trusted Sites" zones. If you make these settings in the Internet zone, then they will apply to all web pages that you visit. If you make them in the Trusted Sites zone, the settings will apply only to those sites that you specify as a trusted site (for example, "*.skire.com"). Vista users may prefer to use Trusted Sites zone and disable "Protected Mode," which can interfere with some Primavera Unifier or Primavera uDesigner functions.

To open the Security Settings window

1        In the Internet Options window, click the Security tab.

2        Select Internet or Trusted Sites as the “zone” at the top of the tab. If you use Trusted Sites, be sure to add your Primavea uDesigner site, for example, (for example, "*.skire.com")as a trusted site by clicking the Sites button.

3        Click the Custom Level button. The Security Settings window opens.

To set security level

In the Security Settings window, click the Reset to: dropdown menu and select Medium.

Enable File Downloads

The following setting is needed for successful file downloads from Primavera Unifier and Primavera uDesigner.

To enable file downloads

In the Security Settings window, scroll down to “Automatic prompting for file downloads” and "File download." Choose Enable for both options.

Open Windows without Address or Status Bars (IE 7, 8, 9)

This setting allows the browser to display Primavera Unifier and Primavera uDesigner windows without address and status bars at the top and bottom of the window. This setting is optional, but recommended.

To allow opening windows without address or status bars

In the Security Settings window, scroll down to “Allow websites to open windows without address or status bars” and choose Enable.

Enable Internet Explorer Pop-up Blocker

Third party pop-up blockers can cause problems in Primavera Unifier and Primavera uDesigner. However, the Internet Explorer pop-up blocker setting must be enabled.

To enable the pop-up blocker

In the Security Settings window, scroll down to “Use Pop-up Blocker” and choose Enable.

Configure Privacy Settings

Some third party applications include pop-up blockers that are turned on by default. Pop-up blockers prevent browser pop-up windows (such as advertisements) from functioning as you navigate the Internet. Yahoo and AOL Instant Messenger are examples of applications that include pop-up blockers.

Blocking all pop-ups will interfere with the operation of Primavera Unifier and Primavera uDesigner, because the applications employ pop-up windows for some operations such as document markups and reports, for example. You must disable these pop-up blockers while using Primavera Unifier and Primavera uDesigner.

The Internet Explorer pop-up blocker can be employed with the following settings. Pop-up blocker and other privacy settings are configured in the Privacy tab of the Internet Options window.

Configure Privacy Setting and Pop-up Blocker Settings

To set privacy setting to Medium

1        In the Internet Options window, click the Privacy tab.

2        Move the Privacy Setting slider to Medium.

To allow Primavera Unifier and Primavera uDesigner pop-ups when Windows XP pop-up blocker is enabled

1      In the Internet Options window Privacy tab, select the checkbox “Turn On Pop-up Blocker” (IE 7, 8, 9).

2        Click the Settings button. The Pop-up Blocker Settings window opens.

3      Enter *.skire.com in the “Address of Web site to allow” text box and click Add. This will allow pop-ups from any server from the skire.com domain.

4        Set the Filter Level to “Medium: Block most automatic pop-ups.”

5        Click Close to close the Pop-up Blocker Settings window.

Configure Advanced Settings

The following procedures describe configuring security settings.

Automatically Delete Cache of Temporary Internet Files

If you do not want to manually delete the cache of temporary internet files, you can set the option to have the files automatically deleted every time you close IE.

To automatically empty the temporary Internet files

1        In the Internet Options window, Advanced tab, scroll down to the Security section.

2        Select the “Empty Temporary Internet Files Folder when browser is closed” checkbox.

3        Deselect “Do not save encrypted pages to disk”.

Ensure Proper Window Sizing

This setting enables Primavera Unifier and Primavera uDesigner windows to display properly.

To ensure proper window sizing

1        In the Internet Options window, Advanced tab, scroll down to the Security section.

2       Select the “Enable Integrated Windows Authentication” checkbox (requires restart of the browser window).

Confirm Security Settings

Confirm that the following security settings are configured. (See your IT Administrator for more information on these security zones.)

To confirm security settings

1        In the Internet Options window, Advanced tab, scroll down to the Security section.

2        Select “Use SSL 2.0” and “Use SSL 3.0”.

3        Select “Use TLS 1.0”.

When you have completed configuring the Internet Options, click Close to save changes and close the Internet Options window. Close your browser window.
