The play modes assigned to a topic with the LMS Play Modes property determine which play modes are available when the topic is launched from the Player in the Knowledge Center with the Professional edition or from another LMS. This gives you the flexibility to set different play modes in the LMS then other deployments. For example, you may want Try It!, Do It! and Print It! modes available for a targeted-application deployment but Try It! and Know It! mode for an LMS deployment.

Note: Content played through the Player Table of Contents in Usage Tracking mode with the Standard edition honors the Play Modes property.

These play modes can be set separately from the Player play modes. New topics automatically have See It!, Try It! and Know It! modes enabled for LMS playback, but you can change the play mode for a topic after it is created.

You can view the LMS play modes assigned to a topic in the LMS Play Mode property cell in the Properties toolpane. You change the play modes for one or more topics by selecting or deselecting play modes from the LMS Play Mode drop-down list. A short description of each play mode appears at the bottom of the list.

Note: When publishing a topic with no play modes set (in the Player or LMS styles), the topic appears in the outline and the concept (if applicable) displays with no play modes.

If you select multiple topics, the play mode settings you select apply to the entire selection, and overwrite any previous settings for that property. See Assign a Property to Multiple Documents for more information about changing play modes for multiple topics.

Note: If all of the topics in a multiple selection are assigned the same play modes, the modes appear in the LMS Play Mode property cell. If the topics have different play modes assigned, the LMS Play Mode property cell appears blank.
