In Service Pack 2, support was added for Windows 8, Windows Server 2012, and Internet Explorer 10; however, there are some items to consider before installing and using the Developer or Knowledge Center on these platforms.
Windows 8
There are two forms of Windows 8, Windows 8 and Windows 8 RT, which is designed to run on ARM-based devices. The Developer and Knowledge Center are only certified on Intel-based platforms and not on ARM-based devices. Windows 8 also introduced a touch interface, primarily used in the Modern interfaces for Windows 8 tablet devices. The Developer and Knowledge Center will run in both the Modern and Desktop interfaces, but it is not certified with touch interfaces.
When you install the Service Pack on Windows 8, you are prompted to install the .NET 4.0 Framework. Choose to install it, and the installer will detect that a newer .NET 4.5 Framework is present by default and will not install .NET 4.0.
Windows Server 2012
Windows Server 2012 is only fully supported in with Service Pack 2. You must first install 11.1 and then install Service Pack 2. Running version 11.1 prior to installing the Service Pack may result in unexpected behaviors. The HTTP activation service must be installed prior to installing on Windows 2012.

If you are installing Knowledge Center, note that it uses the Windows Indexing service for its search. This service has been replaced with Windows Search service in Windows Server 2012. The Windows Search service must be installed on the server prior to installing Knowledge Center. The installer then configures the service properly during installation. Windows Search requires the use of a machine name or fully qualified domain name rather than an IP address. The installer uses the machine name by default, but if you have manually configured an IP address, you need to change it back to the machine name.
Internet Explorer 10
There are two different versions of Internet Explorer 10 in Windows 8, Classic and Modern. Unless specifically noted, features are fully certified in Classic Internet Explorer 10. Support for Modern Internet Explorer 10 is constrained largely to those features that play in the browser:
