You can play content on iPad. Since iPad uses the iOS operating system, some adaptations were made to the Player.
You access Player content the same way regardless of device; therefore, iPad users can use the same link as someone using a browser in a Windows environment.
When the content launches, there is a table of contents. It looks different than the regular Player table of contents. The different functionality is covered in the following bullets.
If a module, section, or topic has a web page attached as a concept, then a Concept link appears next to that item.
All concept panes launched on an iPad have an Open in a new window link at the top of the pane. If the concept does not scroll, the user can tap this link, and scrolling is enabled in the new window.
The View Outline link on the Concept pane redirects the browser back to the table of contents page.
For topics, only the See It!, windowed SeeIt!, Try It!, and Print It! playback modes are available.
You cannot record content for iOS applications so all content will be of Windows-based applications. Recorded topics could have such steps as double-clicks, right mouse clicks, and keyboard events that have no equivalent on iOS such as "Press ENTER". Users should be aware of this.
To help solve the problem mentioned in the previous bullet, special templates have been created for playback on iOS. These templates tell the user to "Swipe left to continue", rather than "Press ENTER to continue". In addition, for all unsupported actions such as mouse clicks and keyboard events, the user can advance using swipe left. Of course, the user can always tap in the action area for a step. The first time a user launches a topic in each session, a message displays instructing users to use swipe left to advance. This message only appears once.
The user can tap the Actions link in the bubble to access other functionality. However, certain options do not appear. For example, there is no Help link. Player help is a full Player with the table of contents, which is not available on iPad in this release.
The Share feature works differently on iPad. If you navigate to a topic and use the Share feature, you will get a link that when opened shows the topic page with the play mode buttons. However, if you navigate to the concept for a topic and use the share feature, you will get a link that when opened shows the concept page and does not show the play mode buttons.
Content can be installed in Knowledge Center and launched through the Player link. Usage will be tracked. Also, if the content is installed in Knowledge Center and the user is directly launching the content from the content root, then usage will be tracked.
If the font for string inputs, bubble text, or web pages is MS Sans Serif or Tahoma, a font substitution will be made automatically, as these fonts do not exist in an iPad environment.
The volume controls do not appear in the control bar in See It! mode. Use the iPad volume control instead.
The size of the controls on the control bar in See It! mode are larger on the iPad than a desktop or laptop computer to allow for easier touch interaction.
