After bringing published content into the Professional edition of the Knowledge Center, you can set up knowledge paths and activities, and specify pre- and post-assessments and choose the settings for each.

 

In the Knowledge Center, only assessments associated with the parent document added as an activity to a Knowledge Path can be designated as pre- and/or post-assessments. Inline assessments directly linked to the outline cannot be selected when setting up the pre- and post-assessment for an activity. Assessments associated with sub-level headings (not linked as an activity) are ignored. Assessments are associated with a parent document through the Assessments property in the Properties toolpane in the Developer. 


A pre-assessment appears before the user starts an activity and records baseline knowledge prior to viewing the content. A pre-assessment can be set as a required activity, which means that the user must take the pre-assessment before starting the content. Pre-assessments can only be taken once. When setting up a pre-assessment in a Knowledge Path, an author can designate a place-out score. When a user’s assessment score meets or exceeds the place out score, the content associated with the assessment is marked as completed and the user can bypass the subject matter and proceed to the next activity.

 

A post-assessment appears after the subject matter and can also be set as a required activity with a required passing score, which specifies the score that users must achieve before advancing to the next activity. Post-assessment scores can be compared with pre-assessment scores to determine the level of knowledge gained from completing the subject matter. Pre- and post-assessments also help define personalized content.

 

An Assessment Summary page appears after the user takes a pre- or post-assessment. The Assessment Summary page in the Professional edition of the Knowledge Center provides options for taking personalized content and selecting the content to be included. You can, however, use the Manager in the Knowledge Center to disable the appearance of the summary page for a pre-and/or post-assessment if personalized content is not enabled.

 

Note: When publishing content to be used in a knowledge path, you can publish the entire outline and add the individual sections of the outline as activities to the knowledge path. It is not necessary to publish each activity separately.
