When you link an existing question in the Library, the question is added to the assessment but also remains in the Library for use in other assessments or outlines.


If you create a question from the File menu, it is saved in the Library but not linked to any assessment.


You can link a new or existing question to an assessment from the Link New Question Link New Question or Link Existing Question Link Existing Question options on the Assessment Editor toolbar. You can also use the Link menu or context menu to link new or existing questions.


ProcedureTo link a new question to an assessment:

  1. Create or open an assessment in the Assessment Editor.
     
  2. On the Link menu, point to New Question New Question and choose the type of question to create.
     
  3. Type a name for the new question and save the question to the desired Library location.
     
  4. Double-click the new question in the assessment to edit it in the Question Editor.
     
  5. Save the changes to the question.
     
  6. Close the question.
     
  7. Save the assessment.

ProcedureTo link an existing question to an assessment:

  1. Create or open an assessment in the Assessment Editor.
     
  2. On the Link menu, choose Existing Question.
     
  3. Navigate in the Library to find the question or questions you want to add to the assessment.
     
  4. Select a question and click Open.
     
    You can select multiple questions using the standard Windows selection keys (CTRL+click and SHIFT+click).
     
    You can also link existing questions to an outline by copying them from the Library and pasting them to the parent document in the Outline Editor or by splitting the work area and dragging questions from the Library in one work area to the open outline in the other work area.
     
  5. Save the assessment.
